The Business Operations Manager is responsible for the contracting, performance management, and continuous improvement execution activities for all suppliers supporting Growth & Ecosystem (G+E).

In this role you will interface regularly with G+E Chief of Staff and their Business Operations team, as well as all levels of individuals within the division and across the company.

The Business Operations Manager will be accountable for end-to-end delivery of all in-scope Managed Services and vendor contracts as well as overall performance of services. They will have responsibility for deploying and managing the day-to-day operations as the outsource service provider for our contracts and will be accountable for the successful implementation of all outsourced initiatives, programs and changes. This includes responsibility for ensuring customer satisfaction is not compromised and that cost/benefit impacts are carefully evaluated. The role will work directly with a number of vendor operations that deliver a range of managed services.

A successful candidate should be comfortable working within a highly matrix-driven multinational organization, exhibit solid organizational, financial, communication, and negotiation skills, and have a strong customer focus.


  • Drive all centralized Business Operational support for the G&E organization through direct management of the vendor support staff on the Business Operations Team

  • Manage the day-to-day relationship between Microsoft and our Outsourced staff and Contractors for specified lines of business

  • Manage the governance of the contracts between Microsoft and external engagements consistent with global processes and best practices

  • Liaise with Project Owners for G+E and Vendor Account Management teams on relevant planning to ensure agreements, orders or key business processes are executed excellently as part of the Global operational plan

  • Drive vendor and project compliance within the Supplier Security & Privacy Assurance Program (SSPA)

  • Drive policy and awareness to ensure Global Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) standards are met

  • Work with project owner to support Vendor’s local operational performance - monitor performance against Service Level Agreements and work with the vendor to address issues

  • Agree to and monitor execution of appropriate corrective action plans, and deal with any local escalations

  • Change Management - oversee vendor readiness to support new program launches, changes to business rules, processes and tools.

  • Serve as liaison with Microsoft Procurement and our Procurement Engagement Manager.

  • Assist with Requests for Proposal (RFPs), supplier selection, contract negotiation, and onboarding

  • Provide business and policy overview for new Project Owners, (responsibilities, contracts, templates)

  • Document and support vendor management processes for G&E, which encompasses personnel of approximately 800 Microsoft employees and 700 contracted vendor staff

  • Project management support


  • Strong communication and influencing skills - needs to be able to manage all aspects of a managed service delivery model

  • Extensive experience in negotiating, developing and managing service contracts

  • Strong business knowledge and ability to set clear expectations for external resources based around business outcomes within a global multi-site operation

  • Proven ability to understand and manage all aspects of external resources financials

  • Proven experience of influencing other organizations where their support is critical to success

  • Ability to work across groups managing individuals both directly and indirectly to achieve a common goal

  • A good understanding of change management, the importance of it, approaches, key tasks and timelines

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced multinational environment working across multiple lines of business

  • Very strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

  • A minimum of 5-7 years of accumulated outsourcing management experience - must have both contract management and service delivery related experience

  • Strong project/ program management skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills

  • Able to work across cultures effectively, valuing diversity within virtual team. Working knowledge of international business practices.

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Visio, Project) products

  • MBA is a plus
