JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Penn State Berks Continuing Education Department is searching for a full-time Community and Government Engagement Specialist (Advanced Professional). The purpose of this position is to serve as a liaison between Penn State Berks and Penn State Health St. Joseph as part of the Berks LaunchBox partnership, support the development of social entrepreneurship programming through the LaunchBox, and foster sustainable solutions for improving food access programming within the Downtown Reading community.

This position has the potential of a Hybrid schedule. Related questions can be brought up to the hiring manager during the interview process.

In addition, a large part of this role involves establishing partnerships with various community and regional organizations to support the work of LaunchBox.

Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Develop & Manage Social Determinants of Health Initiatives & programming at Penn State Health St. Joseph’s (PSHSJ) Downtown Campus in partnership with Penn State Berks and other community partners.

  • Manage the produce prescription program, Veggie Rx, including extensive communication and coordination across all stakeholders; serve as Principal Investigator for IRB research requirements; lead meetings with the core team and periodic staff training; manage all marketing; submit grant proposals and manage a budget, and oversee regular monitoring and evaluation.

  • Manage the weekly PSHSJ Farm Stand and Market expansion at the Downtown Campus, including; overseeing a part-time market manager to aid in the market expansion project; managing marketing and supplies/inventory; managing vendor relationships, and managing a project budget.

  • Oversee the Walk with a Doc program in partnership with the Family Medicine Residency program.

  • Assist in the management and growth of the Berks LaunchBox by building internal and external capacity.

  • Assist LaunchBox staff with general operations: advising entrepreneurs & startups, leading webinars scheduling events, securing grants, reporting, collaborating, and general community outreach.

  • Promote general awareness around the concept of social enterprise/entrepreneurship on and off campus by organizing events, building programming, assisting related start-up companies, and establishing partnerships with local and regional organizations that have expertise in this realm.

  • Facilitate the meetings, relationships, and ongoing work of the Advisory Council

  • Represent the LaunchBox in leading various community partnerships.

  • Function as liaison between PSB and PSHSJ, promoting areas of further collaboration related to medical innovations and research projects; represent both entities within community functions; and connect student entrepreneurs with potential start-up investors.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 4+ years of related experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher

  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Experience with program coordination.

  • Strong communication, problem-solving, organizational, and computer skills.

  • Ability to be innovative, creative, and adaptable.

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively on tasks.

  • Bilingual English/Spanish

The pay range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$56,200.00 - $81,500.00
