Job Overview:

Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Rahway offers comprehensive outpatient services designed to meet the diverse needs of our community. Our services include wound care and hyperbaric medicine, pulmonary rehab, cardiac rehab, physical, occupational, and speech therapy for adults and children, incontinence treatment, diabetes management, weight-loss programs for adults and children, neuropathy treatment, balance testing, and sleep center services. Additionally, our campus features partnering facilities such as Kindred Hospital New Jersey for long-term acute care and Care Connection, a subacute hospital managed by Alaris Health, dedicated to rehabilitating patients before discharge. We provide acute care, long-term acute and rehabilitative care, and outpatient services to ensure patients and their families receive comprehensive support for their recovery journey. We actively engage our local community through education programs to promote better health decisions and overall well-being.

Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Rahway's Emergency Department serves over 32,000 patients annually, providing expert care for various medical emergencies including cardiac, neurologic, and orthopedic conditions. As a Primary Stroke Center with 24/7 telemedicine coverage, our renovated facility offers state-of-the-art services to ensure prompt treatment. Fast Track services, staffed by emergency-trained personnel, efficiently manage minor emergencies, with access to specialty services if needed. We provide comprehensive stroke care, including physical, occupational, speech, and swallowing services, along with emergency cardiac interventions such as stenting in our cardiac cath lab. With 23 patient bays, wireless bedside registration, and advanced radiology services, our department prioritizes patient comfort and convenience, offering complimentary television and Wi-Fi in each treatment bay and a comfortable waiting area for family members with free parking available.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • ASN or Nursing Diploma

  • Strong communication and organizational skills

  • Proficient computer skills

Preferred:

  • Previous RN leadership experience

  • Med./Surg. Telemetry and/or ER nursing experience

  • ER certifications and/or national nursing certifications

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • BLS through American Heart Association upon hire

  • ACLS Certification upon hire

  • PALS Certification upon hire

  • Active New Jersey Registered Nurse License or active Compact Registered Nurse License with New Jersey endorsement

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Evening Shift, 36 hours per week

  • Monday Friday, every other weekend and holiday rotation

Essential Functions:

  • The Nurse Manager is a professional-registered nurse responsible for assisting the ED Director in the implementation of the mission, vision, philosophy, core values and standards of practice for all staff in their unit.

  • The Nurse Manager serves as a resource to promote autonomous, effective, safe, cost-efficient, and compassionate quality care.

  • The Nurse Manager will work collaboratively with the ED leadership team comprised of the Director and Clinical Coordinators to support and provide oversight of the daily ED staffing and operations, including off-shifts and weekends.

  • The Nurse Manager will be flexible in working some hours on the off-shifts in order to effectively review the clinical performance of the nursing staff.

  • The Nurse Manager will be clinically oriented to work in the ED as a team member in order to provide assistance when the unit needs to exceed available resources; this clinical work will occur as time allows and as directed by the department Director.

  • The Nurse Manager will perform daily environmental rounds to ensure a constant state of survey readiness within the department.

  • The Nurse Manager will function as the operational leader when the Director is out of office.

  • The Nurse Manager will provide department specific education for the nursing clinical team using evidence-based content.

  • The Nurse Manager will perform frequent needs assessments to determine the clinical learning opportunities of the nursing staff,

  • The Nurse Manager will monitor the clinical nursing team's adherence to best-practice guidelines through direct observation, feedback, and education.

  • The Nurse Manager will facilitate an atmosphere of interactive management and the development of collegial relationships among nursing personnel and other disciplines, also with the healthcare community.

  • The Nurse Manager will collaborate with the Nursing Education Department and utilize subject-matter experts as appropriate to assist with staff education, clinical issues, and orientation development.

  • The Nurse Manager will support the learning and assimilation of all newly hired clinical staff within the department through weekly meetings.

  • The Nurse Manager is accountable for the acute care environment and must create learning experiences that are open, respectful and promote the sharing of expertise. This ability to enhance the practice environment is critical to the recruitment and retention of all staff.
