JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professionals to join our team in the role of Senior Manager, Projects based in Pickering, ON.

The Senior Manager, Projects will assume a lead role in providing leadership to OPG employees on a variety projects. This leader will meet safety, quality, schedule, and cost performance through executing projects in accordance with the standards and processes defined for phase-gating, integration management, scope management, schedule management, cost management, integrated change control, quality management, resource management, communications management, stakeholder management and reporting, risk management, estimating, and procurement/contract management. The Senior Manager, Projects will set and manage team priorities and ensure projects are supported and executing per the approved Business Case Summaries, Project Charter, and Project Management Plans.

*KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES *

  • Develop, implement, maintain, communicate and enforce the use of industry proven project management best practices.

  • Ensure compliance and effective use of Project Management processes for phase-gating, integration, scope, schedule, cost, change control, estimating, communications & reporting, and risk.

  • Develop project scope of work and associated work breakdown structure and manage scope to ensure scope is executed and controlled throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Prepare the Project Management Plan and support the Project Sponsors in the preparation of Business Case Summaries, Project Charters and board memos for project and portfolio releases.

  • Prepare and review estimates.

  • Identify risks and develop and monitor actions to eliminate or mitigate risks, including schedule and cost contingency.

  • Coordinate the development of all documentation and deliverable requirements for project lifecycle decision milestones that are established for project approvals to proceed and funding release requests.

  • Identify and control all material changes to scope, schedule, and cost baselines and ensure changes (scope, schedule and cost) are processed using integrated change control.

  • Prepare and present gate packages for review and approval by governing bodies and monitor gate commitments (scope, schedule, and cost).

  • Close out the project with appropriate turnover documentation including closeout reports, post implementation reviews, and lessons learned.

  • Explore alternatives and recommend options to achieve project objectives.

  • Ensure that project costs are planned, monitored, correctly allocated, controlled, and reported and ensure integrity and confidentiality of budget information is maintained.

  • Ensure the establishment of project reporting metrics and effective processes to reliably collect information and communicate project results.

  • Implement appropriate earned value and forecasting methods within project reporting.

  • Perform analysis on performance results and identify impacts on projects and ensure appropriate actions are taken to minimize variances from the approved Project Management Plan and associated cost, schedule, and scope baselines.

  • Maintain communication with all functional managers and stakeholders in order to develop a detailed understanding of the entire organization and to assess and communicate project progress internally to the project teams and externally to key stakeholders.

  • Manage or ensure processes are in place to manage field engineering and quality aspects including: input into work planning, field design changes, configuration management, tie-ins, inspections, testing, quality assurance, quality control and hold points, commissioning, and turnover.

  • Follow respective protocols to obtain work assignments (i.e.. Purchased Services Agreement (PSA) and Chestnut Park Accord)

  • Ensure the preparation of and review and accept contractors' work plans and work packages including fabrication, installation, verification, testing, commissioning, documentation update, and closeout functions.

  • Establish and execute contract administration and contract monitoring activities of Contractor and sub-contractor activities, ensuring that the contractors are fulfilling their legal, contractual and quality program requirements, and ensuring accurate records are maintained.

  • Liaison with contractors, subcontractors, and OPG staff such as procurement to coordinate work, minimize conflicts, and resolve issues in the field.

  • Prepare detailed scope of work documents for retention of contacted services.

  • Complete bid evaluation criteria, bid review, and recommendations for award.

  • Coordinate the preparation of licensing and other regulatory submissions required for Nuclear and/or Utility projects.

  • Oversee a Portfolio of Projects and manage a team of Project Managers – manage the drive the output of others and provide leadership so that they collaborate competently, and with full commitment, with the Department manager and with each other in achieving results.

  • Provide a safe and healthy work environment.

EDUCATION

  • University degree or equivalent experience in engineering, construction or manufacturing, or a related field. PMP is considered an asset.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years’ experience in Nuclear, Project Management, and/or related fields.

  • 5+ years’ experience in a leadership role.

  • Experience in the operation of nuclear generating plants, including specialized equipment, processes, tooling, techniques, and methods used, and the application of the specialty to nuclear generating stations and associated facilities an asset.

  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Exceptional written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

  • Strong planning, managerial, and leadership skills.
