Summary:

  • The storeroom processes $100+ million dollars a year in purchases and maintains an average monthly inventory on hand of almost $5 million dollars. The Pharmacy Storeroom Technician will be primarily responsible for receiving and filling pharmacy orders, documenting all pharmacy storeroom activities and participating in the purchasing of $100+ million of drugs annually for the respective entity. (Pharmacy Admin - HUP - 3400 Spruce Street)

Responsibilities:

  • Purchases drugs and supplies for all patient populations, including neonates, young adults, middle adult and older adult. Purchases drugs for some clinical practices where other patient population may be treated. Purchases drugs for the hospital, and some medical supplies if necessary.

  • Works with pharmacy staff to ensure drugs needed to care for patients are on hand at time of service.

  • Works with hospital staff to ensure medications are stored properly and are within expiration date. Completes check for expired meds daily for assigned bin locations.

  • Stores inventory in proper locations to ensure compliance. Maintains inventory in storeroom is adequately controlled and all transactions are properly documented. Maximizes inventory system functionality to ensure the purchasing and inventory control processes are efficient and accurate. Ensure that inventory automation systems are being used properly, to include monthly reconciliations. Review bimonthly cycle counts performed by Storeroom staff.

  • Develops effective strategies for accomplishing financial goals and objectives established by the Department Director as they relate to the purchasing processes. Makes consistent efforts to control costs while seeking ways to improve department performance.

  • Provides constant feedback to Pharmacy departments & staff regarding the status on certain drugs and helps to alleviate drug shortages. Responds to requests to Drug Information on the status of drugs. Ensures that all drug shortages are accounted for and there is sufficient stock on hand as needed.

  • Processes all receipts of inventory, ensuring all receipts are accurately recorded and documented. Process all pharmaceutical invoices for payment and forwards to Accounts payable. Maintains Inventory database, updating with inventory receipts, inventory issues, and all other inventory transactions. Works with vendors to resolve unpaid invoices or pricing discrepancies. Processes requisitions accurately and delivers orders in a timely fashion.

  • Responsible for the management of DEA reports associated with issues to private areas. Receives notification of FDA recalls; coordinates retrieval of medication from inventory, patient care areas, Inpatient and Outpatient Pharmacy; returns to vendor.

  • Possess and exhibits practical, technical and academic knowledge sufficient to successfully manage all purchasing activities. Completes annual safety training.

  • Expands professional and personal growth by adjusting to current trends in his/her field and preparing to meet changes.

Credentials:

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician - PTCB (Required)

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • H.S. Diploma/GED with 3+ years Pharmacy Services experience is required.

  • 1 years Inventory Management and/or Pharmacy Purchasing is preferred.
