Description of Job

This Posting is for both LEAD and GENERAL Watercraft Inspector & Decontaminator. In supplemental questions please specify which you are applying.

Perform boat inspector and decontaminator responsibilities according to state regulations and standard protocols at Ruedi Reservoir near Meredith, Colorado.

LEAD AQUATIC NUISANCE SPECIES (ANS) INSPECTOR: Lead boat inspector will be responsible for providing on the job training to inspection staff, create schedules and make sure all shifts are covered during operational hours.

  • Collect and verify accurate time keeping records for payroll purposes, work with area work lead to resolve challenges with staff and customers, and recommend hiring/firing of employees to area work lead.

  • Ensuring inspection station staff are following standardized protocols by performing quality control assessments on a monthly basis.

  • Ensure that data entry is being performed accurately and completely by all inspection station staff, maintain inventory of all required supplies, perform basic maintenance & troubleshooting on power washer/decontamination unit.

  • Provide public outreach on aquatic invasive species.

  • Early morning, evening, and weekend work is required. Please see below for additional duties

    AQUATIC NUISANCE SPECIES (ANS) INSPECTOR: A customer service based position that involves inspecting for invasive Zebra/Quagga Mussels, Milfoil or other plant species on boats and personal watercraft at an inspection point on the park. This is an important position for the protection of natural resources from non-native species that threaten wildlife, drinking water/irrigation and all water related outdoor recreation in the State of Colorado. Daily interaction with park visitors requires effective communication and public relations skills.

  • Staff the park ANS (aquatic nuisance species) inspection station.

  • Conduct physical boat inspections and boater interviews.

  • Provide information and assistance to the boating public (distributes brochures, promotes ANS education, educates about State Park regulations, etc.)

  • Cleaning and light maintenance duties of interior and exterior of ANS inspection areas. Including maintenance of facilities and grounds.

  • Accurate counting and recording of all boat inspections, either written or by phone application software.

  • Training in boat inspection and decontamination procedures will be provided.

  • Conduct physical boat inspections, decontaminations and boater interviews.

  • May document and report visitor complaints.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • May be required to work at the ANS station for an 8 hour shift and take lunch at the station.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma.

  • Good driving record and ability to work weekends, early morning and late evenings.

  • Experience working with boats, trailers, power washers, small engines and/or heavy equipment preferred.

  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Excellent customer service experience working with the public desired.

  • Reliable and timely.

  • Ability to self-motivate and work independently.
