The Azure Customer Advisory Team (Azure CAT), a team of program managers, engineers and architects within the Cloud and Enterprise (C+E) engineering organization, is seeking a technical program manager with deep expertise in data center architectures, networking, enterprise hybrid scenarios, cloud native applications, cloud migration and hands on experience operationalizing and running cloud services.
The Azure CAT Technical Delivery (TD) role will be focused on:
Engaging with Microsoft’s most important customers and partners to ensure solutions are designed, built, deployed and operated successfully on Azure
Enabling organizations to realize the true benefit of Azure IaaS and PaaS architectures for mission critical workloads
Identifying solution patterns, gaps, whitespace, limits and adoption barriers and vigorously driving feedback into the engineering teams to fuel the continued evolution of our cloud platform
Building both hybrid and native cloud solutions across a broad range of cloud offerings
Driving engineering relationships across customers and partners to fully understand and learn from the customer end-to-end experience on the Azure platform
Working with Microsoft Azure engineering product teams and field account teams to understand customer requirements, design and review solutions and deploy these into pilots, proof of technology/concept and production environments
The program manager is a technical, customer facing role accountable for end to end delivery of these initiatives on behalf of C+E. Helping our largest customers is only one piece of the role. This role also presents a robust opportunity to have direct impact on our engineering execution and strategy. As a part of engineering it is our charter to drive measurable change back to Azure services, having a clear impact on product roadmap and deliverables. We do this by gathering precise customer sourced feedback, from depth engagements across the globe and looking for deeper patterns and meaning before driving change across Azure. We are critical to ensure Azure is well aligned with the most compelling workloads and scenarios from real customers.
The ideal candidate will have hands on experience with cloud infrastructure and understand common application patterns and supporting technology. You will have deep experience with Azure and/or Amazon Web Services, experience in customer facing roles, success leading technical discussions with senior customer stakeholders, and the ability to think and operate broadly. You must be able to drive key decisions and identify and translate abstract customer scenarios and workloads into concrete product refinements. In addition, you have likely worked in an enterprise environment and understand the complexity of management and governance as large enterprise companies transition to the cloud, often in a regulated world.
Required skills for this role include:
Deep technical knowledge of cloud architecture and services (PaaS and IaaS) on either Azure or AWS.
Depth skills in network and infrastructure design (cloud native and hybrid)
Hands on experience with architecting, designing and developing distributed or cloud solutions with significant scale, volume, and complexity
Exceptional communication and presentation skills with the ability to articulate with courage and conviction, while knowing and adjusting your message to the audience
Team player rather than an outside critic, focused on conscious collaboration and customer obsession. Committed to growing the team around you as you grow yourself.
Desired skills for this role include:
Depth expertise in one or more core Azure and / or AWS technology areas including but not limited to compute, storage, big data, edge computing, serverless computing, in addition to deep networking experience
Experience with competing cloud platforms preferably AWS and / or GCP
Deep understanding and application of managing Azure at scale in production environments with Azure Resource Manager (ARM) and Azure CLI / PowerShell and the concept of infrastructure as code
Knowledge and understanding of microservices architectures and design principles
Experience working with and establishing CICD pipelines
Experience with Microsoft and 3 rd party management and monitoring products for cloud native and hybrid workloads. Significant experience with OSS products in this space is a bonus
Hands on experience operationalizing and managing mission critical workloads in a dev ops production environment
Demonstrated ability to engage customers and partners to understand business needs and priorities before structuring a path forward
Aptitude and hunger to learn and adapt to the ever-changing cloud technology spectrum across multiple platforms
This role will be based in Western Europe. Travel will be a mix of on-site customer engagement and travel to Microsoft global engineering centers and is expected to be 25-50%.
