AVCON, INC. Electrical Design Manager, MEP/Facilities in Orlando, Florida

Overview

The Electrical Design Manager provides managerial and technical supervision to the Electrical team using expertise and experience with complex technical activities, provides guidance on unconventional or complex programs, direction on design techniques, and new approaches to assignments with conflicting criteria.

ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS(may include but are not limited to):

  • Manages the workload of the Electrical Design team.

  • Plans, coordinates, and manages detailed aspects of electrical engineering work related to Lighting, Power Distribution, Information Technology (Voice and Data), Access Control, Electronic Safety and Security including Fire Alarm for Commercial, Institutional, and Public Facilities .

  • Preparation of project proposals scopes, tasks, budgets, and schedules.

  • Oversees site investigations and inspections and provides suggestions for electrical engineering projects to ensure that standards and requirements are met.

  • Ensures the accuracy and code compliance of contract documents and reports.

  • Attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments/projects.

  • Communicates directly with clients-owners, designers, and contractors concerning project cost, staffing, and scheduling.

  • Assist in the preparation of the project status reports, contract documents, and engineer’s estimates including the collection, assembling, and organizing of project data.

  • Seeks out new clients and projects to pursue and assist with the marketing efforts of these projects.

  • Recommends staffing needs to upper management; assists in the hiring process of the Electrical team by assisting in the preparation of job descriptions, reviewing resumes, conducting interviews, and recommending candidates for hire.

  • Nights and weekends are generally not required but may occasionally be necessary with little or no advanced notice.

    ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical

  • 10+ years of formal training and experience in Electrical engineering with at least five (5) years as a Technical Team Leader.

  • Must have experience as a group leader or project engineer on complex, multi-discipline engineering design or projects.

  • Sufficient knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit to manage work of staff using these computer software products.

  • Understanding of the National Electrical Code.

  • SKM and/or ETAP Systems Analysis knowledge a plus.

  • Proficiency with MS Outlook, MS Excel, and MS Word.

  • Knowledge of MS PowerPoint, MS Project, and MS SharePoint a plus.

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, AND SKILLS

  • Must have proven track record of accomplishments as leader design engineer on electrical projects and be capable of supervising and directing a team of engineers, designers, and support personnel.

  • Advanced knowledge of electrical engineering and design and be familiar with applicable Codes, standards, and TIA/EIA industry standards.

  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and protect privileged client information and documents appropriately.

  • Ability to work calmly and effectively in a high-volume office environment under pressure of heavy deadlines.

    LICENSURE

  • Valid drivers’ license and maintenance of satisfactory driving

  • Florida Professional Engineer licensure or ability to obtain Florida licensure within six (6) months of hire.

  • Ability to become licensed in multiple states.

    S UPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    There are supervisory responsibilities associated with this position.

    ENVIRONMENT

    Work usually takes place in a clean, pleasant, and comfortable office setting. Site visits may occasionally take place in an outdoor environment.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit for long periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to ten (10) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

    TOOL/PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS

    As dictated by client site protocol, candidate will be required to utilize proper personal protective equipment including but not limited to gloves, sleeves, leather protectors, hard hats, safety vests, safety glasses and shields, hearing protection, safety shoes, covers, helmets/hoods, and any additional tools required for the task at hand.
