Summary This position is located at 237 Fisher Medical Clinic at Naval Medical Readiness Training Command (NMRTC) Great Lakes as part of the Directorate of Fleet Medicine at the Captain James A Lovell Federal Health Care Center (FHCC), located in North Chicago, IL. This position provides direct patient care and associated administrative support to active duty beneficiaries assigned to a clinic primary care provider. Responsibilities Major Duties include but are not limited to the following: Health and Wellness (50%) Assist providers with invasive or non-invasive examinations or procedures. Performs a variety of ambulatory or inpatient procedures as ordered by, and under the supervision of a credentialed provider. Promotes self-care and assists in the dissemination of information to patients regarding discharge instructions, follow-up instructions, health promotion, disease prevention and wellness, and available community resources, as outlined in clinic/unit education program. Prepares and orders laboratory, radiology requests and other forms as ordered by the providers. Inputs and retrieves information through the use of various computerized information systems and performs end of day computer processing. Enters and retrieves data from CHCS, AHLTA, and other appropriate computer systems as needed for patient reception, ensures proper patient identification and eligibility status and updates and confirms patient information. Transcribes physician orders per Standard Operating Procedures. General Compliance/Administration (50%) Maintains equipment and supplies necessary for unit/clinic operation, while maintaining a clean, safe environment. Practices and monitors universal precautions. Notifies appropriate supervisor if equipment needs periodic biomedical safety inspection or is need of repair. Notifies appropriate supervisor for all identified safety hazards or physical security risks. Updates skills and knowledge through participation in departmental and clinic in-service training, Command sponsored education opportunities, seminars, workshops, and through review of professional literature. Maintains confidentiality of patient-related issues and intervenes to protect the same. Individual Occupational Requirements Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. OR Education and Training For GS-5: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. Grade requirements GS-05 You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade, GS-04, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. This is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Utilizing computerized systems. Experience working with patient conditions and medical interventions. Knowledge and understanding of clinical principles and impact on patient care. Communicating effectively orally and in writing. Experience must be clearly demonstrated in your resume. OR Education: To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. Physical Requirements: Work is typically sedentary in an office, although stooping, walking, stair climbing, and moderate lifting and carrying are required, along with reaching and prolonged standing, and providing necessary patient assistance.
