NJ Employer Internal Control Specialist in Newark, New Jersey

Job Summary: This position is responsible for performing operational assessments, compliance reviews and quality procedures. The individual must have a good understanding of internal control concepts and be able to facilitate and execute risk and control assessments. This position is expected to make valuable recommendations and contribute to the overall improvement of the internal control environment. Responsibilities: * Performs risk and control assessments to determine the effectiveness of controls. * Performs tests of controls as appropriate. * Understands, implements and executes quality programs, as necessary. * Identifies and documents control issues and recommends corrective action plans to mitigate risks. * Assists in the execution of external reviews such as external audits, internal audits, compliance reviews, SOC 1 and 2 reports, security questionnaires etc. * Collaborates with business management to develop corrective action plans or analyze management's plan for corrective action on findings to ensure risk is properly mitigated. * Identifies and investigates the root cause of adverse trends to reduce risk and potential issues. * Works in partnership with Management and Enterprise Risk Management to evaluate the effectiveness of solutions designed to reduce business risk. * Performs follow-up on corrective actions plans to ensure management has successfully mitigated risk. * Offers valuable recommendations on the refinement of internal controls and the mitigation of internal control deficiencies. Knowledge: * Knowledge of audit and control concepts. * Knowledge of the healthcare and insurance industries is helpful. Education/Experience: * Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. * Requires a minimum of 5+ years prior operational or financial audit or control testing experience. * Additional licensing, certifications, registrations: * Working towards CPA, CIA or CISA Skills: * Analytical thinking, strong verbal and written communication skills, strong negotiation skills and problem solving capabilities Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
