Description

Roles in the operational risk and controls space are critical to managing a safe and sound global business. The primary function of In-Business Operational Risk and Controls is to anticipate, identify and mitigate non-credit risks, including operational, reputational and performance risks, that could impact business objectives, and to minimize control breaks, poor audit/exam results and operational risk events and losses. In-Business Operational Risk and Control staff work with the business to determine appropriate mitigants to key risks, including advising them on how to design appropriate controls through a globally consistent MCA, and in overseeing the implementation of various elements of the business’s overarching Risk Appetite Framework. The In-Business Operational Risk and Control team also helps to instill a robust risk and controls culture throughout the business through a strong issues and audit/exam management discipline.

  • Liaise with Compliance, ORM, and other SMEs on policies, standards and regulatory interpretation and help strike a balance between requirements and client experience and supporting business infrastructure

  • Highlight areas in need of overlap/better coordination of reviews/coverage across the second and third lines of defense

  • Conduct ongoing assessments of issues raised by IA, FCR and regulators, including root cause of why issues did not receive IBAM credit, across products, functions and geographies, and share lessons learned to help improve audit/review metrics

  • Assist CCB Operational Risk and Controls Head in driving accountability for key control metrics throughout the organization through reporting and analysis of country/regional level reporting

  • Analyze global operational loss drivers and MCA linkages, and develop strategies to address them through MCA Gold Copy enhancements

  • Assist the CCB Operational Risk and Controls Head in managing CCB’s Scenario Analysis Program

  • Review MCA ratings and annual risk assessment through independent analysis and determine if ratings are appropriate

  • Work with CBORC Risk Capabilities team to assist CCB IBC staff in identifying opportunities to automate/digitize controls, monitoring and testing for key MCA processes

  • Analyze operational risk data (typically losses, key risk indicator metrics or assessment results) to identify areas of potential risk, drive reporting/backup materials for presentation to senior CCB management and analyze whether past mitigation efforts are having the desired effect

  • Identify risk and control trends and common themes within CCB across all geographies, product types and functions

  • Identify changes in business strategy, market conditions, industry trends, regulatory environment, regional or country macro-economic factors, etc. which may lead to increased risk, and recommend enhancements to process controls to address them

  • Assist in the development of CCB’s communications on key risk topics and initiatives

  • Prepare materials for senior control forums

  • Lead or actively contribute to initiatives to identify, assess and reduce key risk areas within and across products and geographies

  • Ensure active CCB participation on key Citi regulatory risk areas such as FATCA/CRS

Skills:

  • Must have analytical inquisitiveness and problem solving ability; must be able to sift through complexity and see issues clearly; have an ability to ask insightful questions, break analytical and business challenges into workable components and draw meaningful conclusions.

  • Highly intellectual in character requiring exercise of discretion and judgment related to proposed changes to the Business; must be flexible to adapt to the changing needs or the organization during the different phases of the program.

  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and ‘connect the dots’, yet be detail-oriented, and manage multiple competing priorities including emerging risks to deliver solutions in an effective control environment.

  • Must be able to influence key partners and be persuasive while working with cross-functional groups that do not report to him/her – Regional Businesses teams, Compliance, Enterprise Risk Management, Operations and Technology and other internal and external partners.

  • Ability to collaborate with and lead others to achieve business objectives; flesh out and drive implementation of Consent Order milestones in resource constrained environment. Must be able to work with multi-disciplinary teams from different regions.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior management within Global CCB and Compliance and Operational Risk Management organizations, particularly with people from different geographies and cultures. Build effective business relationships to influence key actionable strategies that drive CCB.

Other Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree, Masters preferred

  • Good understanding of the CCB business and operating model a plus

  • Demonstrated analytical skills and experience

  • Position requires a global mindset – has to be able to lead global projects that require very detailed analysis due to the impact to the Businesses, including the ability to lead initiatives with cross functional teams across the world

  • Background in Operational risk or Credit risk

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong Excel & PowerPoint skills

  • Experience in Robotics Process Automation and/or Data Retrievals tools a plus

Qualifications
