Position Overview

Dwight School, an innovative preschool-grade 12 coeducational school on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, is seeking a self-directed, experienced, and energetic Middle and Upper School Spanish teacher for the 2023-2024 academic school year.

 

Requirements and responsibilities of position:

 

Instruction

  • Demonstrate knowledge of content and a wide range of instructional pedagogies.

  • Utilize technology effectively—both in classroom instruction and for student assignments.

  • Create a classroom environment that is safe, orderly, and engaging.

  • Provide student feedback that offer provisions for students to use feedback in their learning.

  • Be able to challenge and work well with diverse groups of learners.

  • Display a commitment to diversity and create a culture of equity, inclusion, and belonging in approach to teaching and learning, as they are recognized and valued by Dwight School.

    Planning and Curriculum

  • Design learning activities that are both consistent with IB program requirements and highly  relevant to students.

  • Design and implement lesson or unit structures that are clear, logical, and transparent.

    Communication and Community Participation

  • Provide clear communication of requirements, expectations, and academic progress to students.

  • Provide frequent and clear information to parents, as appropriate, about the instructional program and student progress. 

  • Work and communicate with Leadership to evaluate curriculum and pedagogy that will best foster student success.

    Professionalism and Collegiality

  • Develop supportive and cooperative relationships with colleagues.

  • Demonstrate genuine respect for individual students.

  • Submit reports on time.

  • Participate in school events, making a meaningful contribution in some aspect of school life outside of the classroom.

  • Seek out opportunities for professional development and make a systematic attempt to conduct action research in the classroom.

    Program-specific skills appreciated:

  • MYP Spanish Language and Literature (native speakers program)

  • MYP Spanish Language Acquisition (learners program)

  • DP Spanish Ab Initio (learners program)

  • DP Spanish B SL/HL (learners program)

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education required

  • Master's Degree in Education highly preferred

  • Experience teaching to a range of learners

  • Eagerness to contribute positively to the Dwight community

  • Willingness to engage with and learn from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences

  • Ability to bring joy, kindness, maturity, and flexibility to the school environment

    Compensation commensurate upon experience: $65,000-$73,000/annum
