As a Senior Designer, you advocate for the value of design excellence across all disciplines at Microsoft. In this role, you will drive cross-discipline collaboration with Program Managers, Engineers, Data Scientists, Design, and Research to create world-class experiences that inspire. You are outcome-focused, utilizing storytelling, craftsmanship, and partnership along with your insight to develop creative and pragmatic solutions. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to execute high-quality design work within time and technical constraints amid competing priorities and multiple stakeholders.

You must be an excellent experiential systems thinker and set the stage with solid framing, architecture, interaction, and visual skills. You have a proven track record of building effective design systems from start to finish using a variety of design approaches. You contribute to a collaborative design process by delivering rapid prototypes, user stories, concept sketches, experience storyboards, information architecture, interaction design, and design research.

Finally, you have best-in-class architecture and storytelling capabilities. You can take complex ideas and simplify them into easy-to-understand stories and concepts to help others understand customer needs and motivations.

Responsibilities

  •  Work with a multidisciplinary and cross product teams to deliver beautiful end-to-end user experiences across multiple screens

  • Drive a variety of design sprints and jam sessions with v-team partners

  • Design systems thinker/driver

  • Work within and help evolve design processes that promote collaboration, transparency, and agility

  • Design to high quality standards, follow processes, and deliver on schedule

  • Help develop and refine UI pattern libraries and design guidelines

Qualifications

Minimum/Required Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of hands-on interaction design experience for software, OS or large-scale service, including experience with information architecture, interaction design, user research, and usability testing.

  • A minimum of a BA/BS degree in Interface Design, Interaction Design, Communication Design, Architecture, or equivalent experience. 

  • Expertise in creating a variety of interaction design documents including storyboarding, wireframing, creating design specifications and guidelines, user scenarios, task flows, conceptual models, competitor analysis, heuristic analysis, and annotated wireframes.

  • Portfolio required on application.

  • Effective communication and collaboration skills are required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Substantial work-related experience required.

  • Experience leading projects, teams and products end-2-end with multidisciplinary partners.

  • Strong interaction skills with the ability to design quality graphical user interfaces.

  • Strong presentation and storytelling skills

  • Effective communication, collaboration, skills are required.

  • Ability to self-motivate under constant deadline constraints.

  • You should have a current understanding of modern technology, know the constraints, be willing to push the limits and apply creative solutions that result in great user experience.

  • Proficiency in current design software is a must.

  • Experience participating in the complete product development lifecycle of web and/or software applications

  • Ability to present cohesive design approaches to a non-design audience (including business, product and technology teams), create information architecture diagrams, wireframes, prototypes and screen flows

  • Ability to effectively manage time, prioritize tasks and work within deadlines
