Job Description:

Campus Title: Security Services Assistant I (Part-time, Temporary)

Budget Title: Security Services Assistant I

Unit: CSEA-21-SecServUnit

Professional Rank and Salary Range: SG-6; $17.26/hour

Duration:Part-time (32 hours/week), Temporary assignment through May 31, 2024

Shift Information:7PM - 3AM Wednesday - Saturday, or 8PM - 4AM Thursday - Sunday, dependent on need.

Brief Description of Duties:

SUNY Morrisville is seeking a Security Services Assistant I. Security Services Assistant I's patrol and monitor the SUNY Morrisville facility and parking lots that are open to the public reporting security incidents to higher level security staff or agency management according to campus procedures.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Reporting incidents or conditions threatening State property to appropriate law enforcement or maintenance personnel to ensure that the appropriate follow-up action is taken.

  • Maintain a roster of persons entering or leaving the building during prescribed hours.

  • Exercises decision making as to the seriousness of problems encountered and the need for immediate action.

  • Acts as coordinator of fire drills. Directs people along designated evacuation routes to safe places during emergencies and drills to ensure people evacuate in a timely manner.

  • May operate fire extinguishers or standpipe hoses to extinguish fires, and assist in the evacuation of State facilities in the event of a fire.

  • As directed, may turn lights on or off, or start and shut off equipment to ensure that facilities are ready for use and properly is maintained.

  • Inspects buildings and facilities to detect potential fire and safety hazards, and reports deficiencies to higher level security personnel or agency management.

  • Escorts or aids physically handicapped persons to ease their entry into or exit from buildings.

  • Prepares written reports of shift activities, including actions taken to report or resolve incidents or problems.

  • Answers questions and gives directions to visitors to State facilities to assist them in finding appropriate offices and services.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates must meet established physical and medical requirements for appointment to the position. Appointees to this position may be required to undergo periodic medical examinations to reassess their ability to perform the essential duties of the position.

  • Valid NYS Drivers License
