Marotta Controls, Inc. Engineering Technician, Vibration Testing in Montville, New Jersey

Engineering Technician, Vibration Testing

Position Profile:

As an Engineering Technician, you will bring technical understanding to a lab-based environment. You will assist in setting up, testing, troubleshooting, and documenting vibration and thermal tests on various Marotta products. You also will work with the engineering team to design fixturing, integrate new programs, and communicate test results, and provide feedback on testing procedures. Environmental testing is a critical step for verifying proper workmanship and assembly of Marotta products, as well as to document test results for better engineering understanding. Testing will be performed in a fast-paced lab environment that interfaces with a wide variety of Marotta products.

As a part of Marotta’s mechanical testing team, you will interface with A&T Technicians, as well as the Engineering team to perform acceptance testing on various production level components. Working alongside Sr. Technicians and Engineers, you will engage in onsite training for operating test equipment and contribute to improvement initiatives as part of the growing company.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and the ability to understand and work with technical drawings.

  • Technical understanding of mechanical vibrations or heat transfer.

  • Detail-oriented, with ability to work in a fast-paced environment and follow procedures.

  • Ability to maintain focus testing reoccurring products.

  • Effective verbal/written communication skills required for interacting with all levels of personnel within the organization.

  • Computer literate, with MS Office experience and basic PC skills

  • Must be a US Citizen

Essential or Primary / Key Responsibilities:

  • Primary duty is to operate an Electrodynamic Vibration and/or Thermal system to test the manufacture quality and overall dynamic response of valves, power electronics, and control actuation systems.

  • Program test software and ensure quality of test based on written requirements.

  • Design and integration of new test fixtures or test equipment.

  • Understand dynamic concepts to help identify product behavior.

  • Critical thinking and understanding of troubleshooting steps to analyze dynamic behavior and modify test setup to adjust accordingly.

  • Read, interpret documents (i.e. procedures, schematics/technical drawings, etc.) and use necessary measuring devices/equipment to confirm tooling/fixturing geometries and dimensions, as directed.

  • Complete work as directed, in compliance with technical specifications and regulatory requirements.

  • Documentation of all testing performed.

  • Set up and use electronic instruments and fragile transducers.

  • Setup and operate standard hand tools required for assembly.

  • Assist with testing equipment maintenance and/or repair.

  • Identify causes for test failures and document root causes.

  • Responsible for notifying the quality department of any test failures and participating in corrective action resolution.

  • Document and support Lean ideas to improve the efficiencies of the company.

  • Maintain all hand tools in clean working condition.

  • Notify supervisor of any equipment that requires repair.

  • Identify any routings discrepancy and notify supervisor so changes can be made, if necessary.

  • Perform other job duties as requested, directed or assigned.

Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to conditions typical of a manufacturing/machine shop environment, including, but not limited to: fluids, fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, noise and vibration.

  • This position entails constant exposure to white noise.

  • This job interacts both in a professional office environment and a manufacturing/machine shop environment. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, as well as environments inclusive of the appropriate eye, hearing and foot protection (as required).

  • Temperature of work environment may be affected by outside/external temperatures, machining processes, etc.

  • This is a full-time position. Overtime and weekend work may be required, as job duties demand.

  • Some travel may be required for this position (5-10%).

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.

  • The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, and to use hands to finger, handle or feel.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

  • The employee is regularly required to stand at length, sit, walk, stoop, bend, turn, balance, and/or crouch, and move about the facility.

  • The employee may be required to lift, push, pull and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
