Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Switchboard Operator - Mineola. In this role, the successful candidate Reporting to the Call Center Supervisor, the Telephone Operator is responsible for daily switchboard telephone transactions. These include responding to both clinical and non-clinical emergencies, and handling on-call schedule directory lookups. The operator also manages all hospital overhead paging requests and communicates emergencies to the EM+ER team and Nursing Leadership. Additionally, the Telephone Operator is responsible for updating the switchboard department directory. They respond promptly and effectively to customer inquiries or escalate them to the Manager when necessary.

Job Responsibilities:

    • Operate telephone switchboards dial or press buttons to make connections. Respond to directory assistance enquiries by locating the appropriate department, individual or service.
    • Proactively answer calls in a courteous and professional manner.
    • Answer emergency elevator calls and escalate accordingly
    • Handle patient information requests.
    • Perform on-call schedule directory look up (AMiON).
    • Respond to all clinical and non-clinical emergencies (Trauma Level 1 & 2, RRT, CPA, Stroke, STEMI, Surgical Airway, Fire Safety Alert, Infant Pediatric Security Alert, Immediate Evacuation, Active Shooter, etc.
    • Monitor the New York City Hospital Radio for major response notifications and relay the reported incident to the EM+ER team and AOC.
    • Ability to receive and effectively execute instructions from EM+ER, Charge Nurse, Hospital Administrator On-Call.
    • Maintain the switchboard department directory database.
    • Initiate and manage daily clinical emergency roll call.
    • SWN/Onsolve daily roll call.
    • Ensure all the Call Center hardware and software are operational and proactively addresses any issues to Manager and/or escalate to the vendor.
    • Always follow established protocols and procedures.
    • Demonstrate alertness and adaptability in a rapid changing environment with an always I can- do-attitude.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a High School diploma. 2+ years of relevant experience in any of the following areas: a healthcare facility, a large institutional call center environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Interpersonal skills are crucial, including the ability to lead, motivate, and stimulate others. Excellent oral and written communication skills are also required.

Preferred Qualifications:
1 - 2 years Experience in Hospital switchboard systems and emergency procedures.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $33,212.55 - $51,385.78 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
