Meadowlark Counseling Services Addiction Counselor in Mansfield, Pennsylvania

Position Summary

Meadowlark Counseling Services' Addiction Counselors provide outpatient counseling to individuals with substance use disorders, meeting regulatory and licensing regulations, and provides administrative coverage when necessary. All duties/activities support and align with the MCS philosophy, mission, vision, and values.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Adheres to program compliance with DOH-DDAP and all other regulatory agencies.
  • Participates in clinical programming.
  • Participates in all clinical staff training programs.
  • Meets with the Clinical Supervisor on a regular, scheduled basis to discuss achievements, issues, questions, and/or concerns related to MCS.
  • Obtain familiarity and application of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th Edition, (DSM-V).
  • Assist in preparing clinical counseling schedules when needed.
  • Assists MCS President and/or Clinical Supervisor in investigating all clinical staff incidents and disciplinary actions.
  • Assists, under the direction of the Clinical Supervisor, in developing a comprehensive treatment model that is in compliance with state license and other applicable standards.
  • Adheres to the policies and procedures for treatment planning, documentation, discharge planning, and delivery of services.
  • Participates as an active member of assigned committees.
  • Assists in hiring, orienting, performance assessment and management, motivating, training, scheduling, and coaching to meet department goals, and ensure effective and efficient operation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

The Addiction Counselors or Counselor Assistants must meet one of the following education and/or experience requirements. The level of the successful candidate's experience and education will dictate rank.

  • A Master's Degree in a human service area.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in a human service area.
  •  Licensure in this Commonwealth as a registered nurse.
  •  An Associate's Degree in a human service area.
  • A high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) equivalent.

Other position requirements:

  • A counselor shall also complete the training requirements in § 704.11 (relating to staff development program).
  • In addition to training, assignment of a full caseload shall be contingent upon the supervisor's positive assessment of the counselor's individual skill level.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) preferred.
  • Familiarity of social work principles and practice, social health and welfare programs, and laws governing eligibility for these programs; regulatory standards.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity of substance abuse problems and their effects on the client and family members including human behavior, attitudes, and motivations and their applicability in the treatment/rehabilitation of the substance abuser and/or offender.
  • Familiar with substance abuse counseling and treatment principles, practices, and counseling techniques.
  • Familiar with the resources available to individuals with substance abuse problems.
  • Ability to recognize symptoms of substance abuse and elicit information concerning potential underlying reasons for addiction.
  • Possess strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, and Outlook). Must have the ability to learn other computer software programs (i.e., electronic health record software) as required by assigned tasks.
  • Possess strong communication skills via face-to-face, phone, and email.
  • CPR, first aid, and/or de-escalation certifications.
