Madison Farmers Elevator Grain Operator/CDL Driver in Madison, South Dakota

Job description

The Grain Operator position involves loading and unloading of trucks and rail cars for the elevator, grain handling, safety and maintenance, and customer service.

Primary duties include:

-Tends conveyors and routes grain from unloading pit to elevator via computer -Performs operations to keep facility running properly such as loading/unloading trucks/rail cars -Filling ground piles and transferring -Provide a high level of customer service -Help maintain the general appearance of the facility and preventative maintenance procedures -Monitor equipment to ensure its in good working order, participate in the overall maintenance of facility and equipment -Will be required to work overtime hours especially during harvest receiving hours -Assist in making inspections of stored grain -Blend all grains as necessary when shipping out -Drive tractor-trailer combination to transport and delivery grain to various destinations -Help service fleet equipment

Education/Experience

High school diploma/GED required. Heavy machinery experience and certification preferred. Previous grain operations experience preferred. Basic computer skills are necessary.

SKILLS/QUALIFITICATIONS

Must be comfortable operating heavy machinery. Class A CDL required (Employer willing to assist with CDL training and financial responsibility). Must be able to problem solve and make decisions as needed. Demonstrate strong customer service and ability to work effectively in a team environment. Ability to work outside in all types of weather, climb ladders, and work from heights. Will be required to work long irregular hours especially during harvest receiving hours.

Strong verbal communication is required as well as ability to follow instructions. English verbal communication is required.

WORK CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMAND

Most of the time is spent very active moving around 90% of the time. Exposure to noise from machinery, alarms, and grain trucks is very common. There is heavy exposure to all weather conditions when loading trucks and constant exposure to grain dust. Exposure to moving, mechanical parts in elevator and on grain trucks. Personal protective gear will be provided. Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds with/without assistance. There will be frequent movement in and out of the heavy machinery, frequent maneuvering around rural terrain and poor road conditions. Must be able to move underneath equipment for maintenance and able to open hoppers on trailers. Work sometimes requires use of eye protections, foot protections, hand protections, and head protections. Work will also require occasional use of N95 masks when working in grain dust atmosphere. Work requires the ability to move up and down a ladder. Will be expected to work in all weather conditions outdoors.
