Position Description:

Performs routine compliance activities related to research compliance, including human subjects, animal care, conflict of interest and/or export control.

Major/Essential Functions:

  • Maintains a working knowledge of current federal regulations, guidelines and trends influencing the conduct of human subject research. Applies that knowledge to serve as a resources for researchers and provide pre-review of all protocols prior to IRB reviewer assignment. Reviews and approves exempt level protocols and modifications when directed by the IRB.

  • Attends and contributes to IRB board meetings, HRPP staff meetings, and professional development conferences/trainings. Maintain certification as Certified IRB Professional (CIP).

  • Facilitates and navigates all user access, IRB submissions, pre-reviews, post-approvals, withdrawals, and closures in Cayuse Ethics. Communicates with researchers on project submission status, expiration, renewals, deviations, and approvals. Serves as a liaison with other compliance divisions and Office of Research Services on issues related to human subject research.

  • Generates reports from the electronic database/s. Maintains record management for communication/outreach and human subject training.

  • Assists with educating and training researchers on Cayuse Ethics and IRB submissions through email, phone and face-to-face/video conversation, presentations and the HRPP website. Assists with the TTU human subject training and presentations.

  • Assists with HRPP/TRB annual report, reliance agreements, post approval monitoring, and for-cause investigations. Helps in the training process of student employee/s and Research Compliance Specialist I.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in job related field.

  • Capable of handling several tasks/projects at a time and prioritizing responsibilities.

  • Ability to work closely with other staff members on projects.

  • Willingness to work in a supporting role and accept directions.

  • Comfortable and able to work within an electronic environment.

  • A demonstrated understanding of applicable federal and state regulations.

  • Some IT system background of online submission software.
