Summary

The Commissioning and Startup Manager will be responsible for the commissioning and startup of an industrial water/wastewater treatment plant and future municipal projects. As part of the Commissioning and Startup team, this position will be providing commissioning services to allow the company to minimize risks and maximize profits on turnkey and engineering services contracts.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of commissioning and startup plans.

  • Lead the development of written procedures for testing, cleaning and initial startup of major plant equipment and systems.

  • Manage client/vendor/subcontractor coordination for the startup of completed systems. Provide training program and materials for process plant equipment.

  • Adapt to changing technologies and learn functionality of new equipment and systems.

  • Assist in resource planning at project level.

  • Manage documentation of the commissioning process, including commissioning data and as built documentation, input to O&Ms and feedback to the design disciplines.

  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

  • Recognize the importance of satisfying the customer as the key to achieving other objectives.

  • Participate in the acquisition and storing of business and technical knowledge, and the use of those stored intellectual assets.

  • Maintain Health and Safety levels during the commissioning activities.

  • Recognize that Health and Safety considerations are central to all tasks, and contribute to ensuring safe working environment for all.

  • Report safety issues responsibly, and participate in improving practice.

  • Ensure your own continuous professional development by participating in external networking/conferences/associations/groups, to stay current on industry changes and innovations.

  • Must be able to legally work in the United States

  • Must be willing to work in a drug-free environment and agree to a post offer drug test.

  • Well organized and detail oriented with the ability to multi-task.

  • Highly effective writing, proofing, and editing abilities.

  • Able to interact with all facets of employees including Senior Managers and Executives.

    Education and/or Experience     

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Technology, Business Administration, Science, or other similar field of study.

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in commissioning & start-up and plant operations.

  • Familiarity with electrical communications systems

  • Experience in the water/wastewater industry (or) applicable industrial construction responsibilities.

  • Operations and maintenance and/or commissioning and startup background.

  • Familiar with asset management programs (i.e Maximo) for vertical assets.

  • Proficient in interpreting and understand technical manuals, drawings, blueprints, schematics, and diagrams.

  • Understanding of methods and techniques of maintaining and repairing wastewater plant equipment, machinery and related facilities.

  • Experience with operations and maintenance programs at water or wastewater facilities.

  • Understanding of occupational hazards and standard safety practices.

  • Proficient with Adobe and Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Proficient with use of SharePoint document management.

  • Ability to travel 50-75% of time.

    Language Skills

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

    Mathematical Skills         

    Ability to work with mathematical concepts related to business acumen, financial concepts, and various engineering related calculations.  A high math aptitude is necessary for computer automation projects and logic.  An understanding of statistics and other higher level math is necessary.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

    Reasoning Ability

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    Computer Skills

    To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of database software; AutoCAD; Internet software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software, reporting tools related to databases.

    Work Environment

    General office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking for up to 20% of the time.  The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc.
