As part of the UK Strategic Growth function, the Commercial Modeller is to provide the necessary financial analysis and assistance to allow the business to make commercial decisions to maximise WSP’s win rate and profitability for opportunities on our bid pipeline. They will be responsible for supporting & leading the development of commercial and pricing offers that form part of our proposals and tenders.

The Commercial Modeller leads the financial submission within strategic tenders. This includes working with bid management professionals and operational business leads to deliver competitive tenders, contributing to required win-rates and target margins, and providing expert advice to others.

The Commercial Modeller will promote work winning best practice across our business through their work on opportunities, coaching others and training initiatives as required.

The role will require UK wide travel.

  • To be an integral part of WSP’s core Price to Win function which supports WSP’s operational businesses deliver growth through winning new & sustainable work and providing pricing training & advice to empower others to do the same.

  • Review tender documents and develop appropriate pricing strategies to deliver high quality and competitive tender submissions.

  • Co-ordinate Fee build ups for large (£1m+) mutli-disciplinary opportunities

  • Disseminate, analyse and provide briefings on commercial Tender requirements

  • Establish and operate commercial models that provide optimal outcomes for WSP’s competitiveness and profitability

  • Participate in the detailed risk assessment process and ensure tender models include suitable allowances

  • Communicate with Business Leadership to facilitate appropriate governance of opportunities

  • Leverage technology and data to ensure the team remains Best in Class

  • Provide commercial challenge and checks to ensure the best outcome for the business

  • Find and translate financial data to provide clear patterns and feedback to the business

  • Document key financial assumptions and allowances and supporting documents for Tender handover on successful bids.

  • Develop a library of outputs and pricing data

  • Provide expert advice and support to bids across WSP as needed

  • Conduct and participate in lessons learned exercises to ensure pricing techniques, tactics and data are continuously improved via a feedback loop.

  • Strong numeracy skills combined with a keen detail orientated approach

  • Entrepreneurialism to influence delivery methodology

  • Good communicators with robust project management skills

  • Support and promote a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.

  • Strong time management skills and ability to prioritise.

  • Adopt a pro-active approach, use initiative and take responsibility for own actions

  • Ability to assimilate large volumes of information and understand, plan and manage associated workflows

  • Develop strong relationships and rapport with external clients and internal colleagues

  • Excellent people skills to lead, encourage, motivate and enthuse others

  • A passion for quality and continuous improvement with a focus on delivery

  • Exhibit and demonstrate behaviours and attitudes in accordance with WSP core values to create a team culture and promote excellent communications.

  • Support and promote a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.

  • Qualified to degree level in an appropriate subject (ideally finance or accounting related)

  • Experience in Professional Services consultancy market

  • Member of relevant professional institution preferable but not essential

  • IT Literate, particularly in Microsoft Excel

  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in a similar role in engineering and construction
