Job Summary

The Safety Manager coordinates, implements, and monitors all aspects of the company safety programs for all projects located in the DMV area. S/he investigates accidents, injuries, and near-misses; analyzes potential hazards and trains employees to prevent accidents, injuries, and property damage. The Safety Manager is also responsible for ensuring that the company complies with and adheres to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) guidelines. Likewise, the Safety Manager provides a safe working environment and prevents injuries and accidents.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coach employees responsible for pre-task analysis and toolbox talks to ensure they are completed effectively.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the Company’s Safety and Health Program, applicable Regulatory Standards which may include EM 385-1-1.

  • Understanding of site-specific project safety requirements.

  • Assist project team with Safety Startup, program development, implementation, and management.

  • Assist in the completion and maintenance of the Accident Prevention Plan.

  • Be visible in the field to observe safety issues.

  • Oversee the safety point file system and documentation.

  • Assist the Project Superintendent in the completion, maintenance, and management of the Safety Management Tool.

  • Assist the Project Superintendent in the project site-specific safety orientation.

  • Conduct project safety training, as needed, and assist in developing the project safety training schedule.

  • Maintain project statistical data.

  • Report on subcontractor safety performance to Project Superintendent and Project Manager.

  • Conduct project safety audits and assist in team audits.

  • Participate in OSHA inspections.

  • Participate in all incidents and/or near miss investigations.

  • Completes and maintains DOT records.

  • Responsible for claims/disability administration and management

  • Work with project team to maintain the safety budget; anticipate necessary safety supplies for employees.

  • Assist in return-to-work process, overseeing modified work programs, monitoring claims for areas of objection, and then formulating objections/appeals.

  • Assist in the development and review of Activity Hazard Analysis.

  • Attending competent person courses, as available.

  • Personnel evaluation and development.

  • Perform miscellaneous duties as directed.

Qualifications

  • A 4-year degree in Occupational Safety and Health degree is preferred.

  • Recommended minimum of 5 years of experience in safety on commercial construction projects.

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Certification designation is suggested.

  • Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) Certification designation is required.

  • OSHA 500 required.

  • Current First Aid/CPR and EAD training

  • Current OSHA 30-hour training within 5 years

  • Train the trainer is suggested.

  • Speak and write fluent English and Spanish (desired but not required).

  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Computer software - Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel based templates, Procore.
