The Opportunity

This position works out of our Lake Forest, IL location in the Core Lab Division. Our diagnostic solutions are used in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics around the globe. The crucial information derived from our tests, instruments and informatics systems are often the first step in patient care decision making for hundreds of health conditions from heart attacks to blood disorders to infectious diseases and cancers.

As the Senior Principal Business Specialist , you’ll be responsible for the development of the planning strategy for the Core Diagnostics Division, including management of the annual and long-range capital planning process and margin improvement opportunities. This position will work closely across the Division’s business units and functions to annually deliver a robust and defendable capital strategy aligned to the Core Dx’ business targets.

What You’ll Work On

  • Supports the development of high-impact, sustainable technical strategies for cost/capacity evaluation and modeling for the global Operations network.

  • Performs benchmarking to other divisions and Corporate, with cost structure analysis to define significant opportunities for improvement.

  • Develops and identifies "Best Practices" in the area of capital planning and capacity modeling.

  • Lead in compiling the annual and long-range capital plan for Core Operations and the whole of the Core Dx division.

  • Consults with key stakeholders to develop a robust capital investment plan justified by historic and benchmarked data, tied to the success of the Division business strategy to support our customer and business requirements.

  • Responsible for the creation of the quarterly tracking, annual and long-range capital presentations for review at the Division and Corporate level, requiring the coordination across organizational functions and business units.

  • Oversight of tracking and trending of capital related metrics to ensure execution to annual Capital Plan expenditures for the Division, including mentoring of more junior team members.

  • Oversight of the procure to pay process for Division Engineering and broader Core Operations to ensure annual targets are achieved.

  • Remains current on developments in field(s) of expertise, regulatory requirements, as well as industry trends.

  • Understands business environment and relates knowledge of internal and external technological advances and trends.

  • Adapts to changing business strategies and evolves capital asset planning accordingly.

  • Exercises judgment independently and provides mentorship to more junior team members.

  • Erroneous decisions or recommendations would typically result in failure to achieve major organizational objectives.

  • Supports all Company initiatives as identified by management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and other regulatory requirements.

  • Complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments.

  • Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in engineering or closely related discipline.

  • Six to ten years work progressive development experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years Related work experience with a complete understanding of specified functional area.

  • Master’s Degree preferred.

  • PMP certification.

  • Operations and Lean manufacturing experience.

  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt.

  • Experience working in a regulated industry.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of a particular technological field. Uses in-depth knowledge of business unit functions and cross group dependencies/ relationships. Is recognized as an expert in work group and across functions. Will perform this job in a quality system environment. Failure to adequately perform tasks can result in noncompliance with governmental regulations.

  • Works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors. Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Has broad knowledge of various technical alternatives and their potential impact on the business.

The base pay for this position is $109,300.00 – $218,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
