Cornell's Center for Teaching Innovation is a fast-paced, exciting, and highly accomplished team dedicated to partnering with the Cornell teaching community to facilitate the development of vibrant, challenging, and reflective student learning experiences.


The Associate Director of Operations and Support will work closely with Center leadership to contribute to CTI programs and initiatives, aligning them with campus-wide strategic priorities. They will also participate as a key member of the leadership team, reporting directly to the Executive Director of the Center. Their primary responsibility will be to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Center, manage a team of support professionals including event management, and provide leadership on designated Center projects.


This position requires a bachelor's degree and at least 3-5 years of relevant experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required.


This is a full-time endowed position based in Ithaca, NY. The position will allow for the flexibility to work remotely 2 days per week. Typical work hours are 8:30 am - 5 pm Monday through Friday.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Provide oversight of CTI Operations procedures, systems, and strategies in collaboration with the events coordinator, communications specialist, and administrative assistant for Operations.
  • Support staff hiring, onboarding, mentoring, professional development, supervision, and offboarding.
  • In support of the Executive Director, participate in budget management functions.
  • Work collaboratively with Center leadership in planning, project management, and implanting strategies across programs and initiatives within the CTI.
  • Contribute to CTI's strategic planning and coordinate with other directors to align activities within this plan.
  • Contribute to cultivating and sustaining an inclusive work environment.
  • Contribute to a culture of professional development for staff.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated

  • Experience managing a team, with a strong record of mentoring and professional development.
  • Collaborative leadership, mentoring, and management skills.
  • Capacity to work both collaboratively and independently, to exercise sound judgment, and to handle sensitive and confidential matters.
  • Experience working with departmental budgets.
  • Comfort with organizational change processes and experience facilitating organizational change.
  • Strong administrative skills and the ability to work collaboratively with senior university administrators, faculty, staff, and students.
  • Sophisticated project management skills including leadership, problem-solving abilities, analytical thinking, and sound judgment skills.
  • Understanding of the complexities of working within a university, and the ability to identify opportunities to connect and collaborate across the university.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including strong interpersonal communication and presentation skills.
