Battelle Energy Alliance dba Idaho National Laboratory Research and Development Technician in Idaho Falls, Idaho

Idaho National Laboratory's Department of Engineering Process Design & Realization is looking for a mid-level Biomass Feedstock National User Facility (BFNUF) process research and development (R&D) technician to perform multiple tasks in a R&D work environment.

This technician will apply skills and years of experience in the tasks of fabrication, assembly, calibration, and testing of prototype, electro/mechanical, mechanical and optical devices, instruments or processes. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our REC-ESL facility with every other Friday off.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Specific tasks may include materials handling and testing, electronics, mechanical systems design, thermal treatments, cable management, equipment installation and maintenance, piping system fabrication and pressurized systems, and responsibilities associated with operating research facilities and equipment that scale from bench to full production.
  • This technician will work in a team of technicians and support research scientists and engineers working in multiple programs and in multiple facilities, including but limited to INL's Bioenergy program, Advanced Manufacturing program and advancement in the INL's Energy Technology Proving Ground (ETPG) initiative.
  • This technician will work on complex assignments including participating in and individually promoting versatile technician teams across technical disciplines and support tasks to ensure the delivery of research products and technology within specific research scope, schedules, and budgets. You will acquire contacts across the laboratory to become and provide subject matter expertise on the operation and maintenance of multiple new and developing electro, mechanical, and electromechanical equipment and systems, including the fabrication of these systems and the development of work control documentation for safe operation. You will involve physical labor and operation of heavy equipment and machinery including forklifts and hoisting and rigging equipment. The work involves hazards that require mitigation including protective clothing, gloves, eye wear, hearing protection, and respirators. We ask that you understand how to partner with technician teams, engineers, researchers, and all levels of management. This position must maintain good team relationships and moral. Work is performed at a level that actions may have visibility at the department and research program level.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Senior Technical Support (TS3) – High School and 2-4 years related experience working with material processing equipment and R&D activities.
  • Highly Skilled Technical Support (TS4) – High School and 6 years related experience working with material processing equipment and R&D activities.
