Lockheed Martin Software Engineer, Staff - GMD Weapons Systems (GWS) in Huntsville, Alabama

Become a part of something IMPACT-ful! Ground Missile Defense (GMD) is the heart of the Missile Defense System and a key element of our nation’s defense against ballistic missile attacks.

The GMD Weapon System (GWS) processes data from multiple sensors to identify and characterize the inbound ballistic missile threat, plans the best defensive solution, and launches the intercepting missiles to negate the threat.

The Work

In this role you will be responsible for developing and implementing scripts that drive the automated testing efforts for the Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) Weapons Systems (GWS) Ground Support Systems (GSS) product team. Essential functions include:

•Support advanced portions of the lifecycle of software development to include requirements definition, integration, and deployment.

•Develop requirements driven software solutions.

•Resolve software issues (debugging) and support verification / test analysis.

•Prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish project results with limited oversight and direction.

•Apply "systems thinking" to ensure developed products are scalable, maintainable, and meet end-user needs.

•Communicate openly and effectively with teammates and customer representatives.

•The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, collaborative/team settings across all levels.

Basic Qualifications:

•Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 9 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline and 7 years of related experience, or 4 years of experience with a PhD.

•Strong C++ and Java software development experience.

•Experience with software development for embedded systems.

•Must be able to support an in-person / closed-area work environment.

•Ability and willingness to travel 10% to support business needs.

•Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued Secret security clearance which is required to start.

Desired Skills:

•Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering.

•Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with technical teams and customer personnel.

•Experience analyzing complex problems and developing solutions based on limited direction and definition.

•Experience developing using a Red Hat Enterprise Linux Operating System.

•Knowledge of various scripting languages and tools: Python, MATLAB, etc.

•Familiarity with build tools: Gradle and/or CMake, etc.

•UI Framework / JavaFX exposure

•Git version control ystem exposure

•Familiarity utilizing the Atlassian tool suite (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, Fisheye Crucible)

•Familiarity with Software Containerization

•Experience working on CMMI Level 3+ programs.

•Security + Certification

Security Clearance Statement: This position requires a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen for consideration.

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.

Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.

Schedule for this Position: 9x80 every other Friday off
