Carollo Engineers Senior Structural BIM Designer in Houston, Texas

Overview

Carollo Engineers is an internationally recognized environmental engineering firm that specializes in the planning, design, and construction of water and wastewater facilities. We are seeking a Senior Structual BIM Designer to help support in design and collaboration of our project deliverables.

This is a Senior BIM Designer position. The position requires a comprehensive understanding of 2D and 3D CAD software and a demonstrated knowledge of 3D design capabilities. This position also requires a good understanding of engineering drawing development in the area of water and wastewater facilities design and the associated infrastructure. Job duties will also include the coordination of drawing production activities between all disciplines at the project level.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include the following. Other dutiesmay be assigned.

  • In accordance with any BIM requirements, develop structural design layouts including cast-in-place and precast concrete, CMU, structural steel, and aluminum members in 3D applications and 2D drawings from sketches provided by engineers and senior design staff

  • Assist in the preparation of structural details, estimates, and material lists with project engineer’s or project manager’s guidance

  • Coordination of modeling and drawing production activities between all disciplines at the project level

  • Provide clash detection reporting with the use of Autodesk Navisworks or Bentley Navigator

  • Provide model interrogation data reports (e.g., quantities, parts list, etc.)

  • Provide quality checking of drafted products and conformance with modeling and drawing production standards including project specific CAD/BIM requirements

  • Generate 2D drawing views from 3D design models and develop into final contract drawings

  • Produces engineering documents and related material with minimal direction and supervision

  • Provide basic CAD/BIM technical support for junior level staff

  • Convert data between MicroStation and AutoCAD

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience working in engineering design

  • Highly motivated self-starter, results-driven and teamwork oriented

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Detail oriented, organized and have good follow-up skills

  • Working knowledge of concrete reinforcing standards such as CRSI and ASI 318

  • Fundamental knowledge of AISC Steel Construction Manual and associated specifications ANSI/AISC 360-16

  • Familiar with AISC weld symbols and their application

  • Advanced level of proficiency in the development of 2D structural design drawings

  • Extensive knowledge of 3D design concepts

  • Advanced knowledge of BIM as it relates to structural design for concrete, masonry, and steel structures

  • Comprehensive understanding of structural design and the interface between structural components and process mechanical equipment and piping

  • Advanced knowledge in Autodesk Revit Structure or Bentley AECOsim/OpenBuildings Designer

  • Proficient with AutoCAD or MicroStation 2D and 3D functions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in detail design of water and wastewater facilities and related infrastructure

  • Associate degree in related technical field
