Non-Tenure Track Faculty Opening in the Department of Rice Center for Engineering Leadership at Rice University

https://www.rcelconnect.org/

The Rice Center for Engineering Leadership (RCEL) seeks applicants with engineering and engineering management/leadership experience for a Professor in the Practice faculty position in the new Master of Engineering Management & Leadership (MEML) degree program. RCEL (http://www.rcelconnect.org) is a center within the George R. Brown School of Engineering at Rice University in Houston, TX. The mission of RCEL is to produce a generation of ethical-technical leaders in engineering and technology. RCEL works closely with all the Rice School of Engineering departments.

This position requires teaching relevant MEML courses. The overview for the relevant MEML course to be taught is “Technology-based companies are powered by teams of engineers who create products and services that create value and competitive advantages for organizations that can turn into profits. However, the matrices of technical and user-related decision paths that engineering leaders make to guide the team are not always formally constrained by ethics. This course will help students understand the impact of ethics on engineering and technology to apply ethics concepts to decision-making on issues that emerge in the workplace during one’s career.”

Candidates with industry experience are especially encouraged to apply. Each candidate will have an academic home in RCEL. The RCEL MEML faculty position offers flexible opportunities for individuals passionate about engineering management and/or leadership, innovation, and/or engineering entrepreneurship. Hiring a professor in the practice (i.e., 10 years of industry experience) or teaching professor rank may be considered, where appropriate.

The job responsibilities include:

  • Teaching a minimum of three courses.

  • Team-teaching MEML courses.

  • Collaborating with other MEML faculty to advance knowledge in engineering management & leadership.

  • Developing new MEML course(s) and course content.

  • Teaching BOTH traditional (lecture-style) on-campus and online MEML courses at the master's level.

  • Building and fostering partnerships with industry and other academics to bring state-of-the-art material to MEML degree course(s).

  • Mentoring student teams on MEML projects and on professional and career development.

  • Performing service with RCEL and associated academic departments in support of RCEL's mission.

The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to teaching, advising, and mentoring graduate students from diverse backgrounds.

We seek greater representation of women, scholars of color, people with disabilities, veterans, and others who have historically been underrepresented in Statistics; to attract international students from a wider range of countries and backgrounds; to accelerate progress in building a faculty and staff who are diverse in background and thought; and to support an inclusive environment that fosters interaction and understanding within our diverse community.
