Department of Defense Education Activity Custodial Worker in Fort Moore, Georgia

Summary About the Position: This position is located in Fort Moore Georgia. All candidates should reside within the local commuting area where the position is located. Local commuting area is defined as the geographic area surrounding a work site that encompasses the localities where people live and reasonably can be expected to travel back and forth daily to work based on the generally held expectations of the local community. (5 CFR 575.203) Responsibilities Disinfects restrooms to include urinals, toilet bowls, and sinks. Dusts, waxes, and/or polishes furniture and fixtures. Empties waste baskets. Occasionally works on ladders/scaffolds to clean. Sets up and tears down for special events or assemblies. Sweeps, mops, strips, scrubs, waxes and/or polishes floors using brooms, industrial-type floor scrubbers and other heavy powered cleaning equipment. Opens and closes school following all security procedures. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Custodial Worker without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience or show the ability to do the following: performing cleaning duties such as mopping, dusting, and/or disinfecting lavatories and/or maintaining outdoor appearance of facility premises. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Dexterity and Safety Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean and in order) Physical Effort: Occasionally uses heavy powered cleaning equipment (e.g., industrial type buffers). Occasionally exerts moderately heavy physical effort such as that required in lifting and moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds, requiring continuous standing, bending, stooping and reaching. Requires working on ladders/scaffold in the performance of some duties. Working Conditions: Usually works indoors in areas which are adequately heated, lighted, and ventilated. Exposed to vibration from heavy equipment and to skin irritation from strong cleaning solutions. Care must be taken to avoid serious injury when working on ladders and scaffolds or when using heavy powered equipment. Education Additional Information Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees. Salary is based on the local prevailing rate.
