The Department of Mechanical Engineering ( MECH ) at Colorado State University ( CSU ) offers a curriculum that integrates exceptional classroom learning and in-depth engineering practice for an unparalleled educational experience. Made up of 47 faculty members, 14 staff members, 1,100 undergraduate students, and 150 graduate students, MECH is one of the largest departments on CSU’s campus. The Othopaedic Bioengineering Research Laboratory ( OBRL ) is an interdisciplinary group consisting of faculty from the College of Engineering, College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, and School of Biomedical Engineering. The Mission of the OBRL program is to improve health, fight disease and aid persons with disabilities through merging engineering and life/biological sciences. The faculty has special interests in the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, and neurological systems. This position will primarily involve orthopaedic and musculoskeletal research.

Position Summary

The Orthopaedic Bioengineering Research Laboratory ( OBRL ) within the Mechanical Engineering Department at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado seeks to hire a full-time (40 hours/week) professional Research Associate I or II. This Research Associate will support orthopedic and musculoskeletal research within the OBRL’s histology lab. Daily operations of the histology lab may include, but are not limited to, processing tissue samples, creating microscopic tissue slides, maintaining lab equipment, maintaining lab supplies, imaging slides, and performing slide analyses. The person selected will collect data, and will follow Standard Operating Procedures ( SOP ) and Good Laboratory Practices ( GLP ) within the lab at all times.

The person selected for this position will be classified as a Research Associate I or II, depending on education and experience. Specifically, a person with a BS degree in a scientific discipline with fewer than 3 years’ experience will be a Research Associate I. A person with a BS degree in a scientific discipline with 3 years’ experience or more, or a MS degree in a scientific discipline, will be a Research Associate II.

Required Job Qualifications

  • BS degree in scientific discipline;

  • Experience in research or clinical setting;

  • Demonstrated ability to generate technical reports;

  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task;

  • Experience working in a team environment; and

  • The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the position start date; the department will not sponsor a visa for this position.

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • BS degree in scientific discipline and 3 years’ experience in research or clinical setting;

  • Master’s degree in scientific disipline;

  • A minimum of one year histology lab experience (clinical or research);

  • Histotechnician or histotechnologist certification; and

  • Experience working in a Good Laboratory Practice ( GLP ) laboratory.
