Description
Friedman Real Estate is hiring a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to manage the finance, accounting, and shared services operations of a fully integrated commercial real estate enterprise headquartered in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Friedman Real Estate encompasses several operating companies under one umbrella. These include commercial real estate brokerage, commercial and multi-family management, construction, facilities management, loan origination, acquisitions, among others. Friedman’s footprint extends throughout the Midwest and beyond. The Company has a successful track record for more than 35-years and has a long runway ahead.
The CFO is a member of the executive leadership team and has overall responsibility for the Shared Services teams. Working as a collaborative leader, the CFO is responsible for managing and reporting on all fiscal and fiduciary affairs of the operating companies, including reporting to investors and lenders; cash and investment management; budgeting and forecasting; monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting for the managed properties and the various operating companies; and strategic oversight of the Shared Services departments. Shared Services departments include; accounting/reporting/treasury, information technology, human resources, legal, business process improvement, risk management, among others. While it sounds daunting, each department and company has strong leadership, and motivated and engaged team members making for a great entrepreneurial work environment.
The CFO will collaborate with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), President, and Chief Operating Officer (COO) as well as other senior staff to develop and implement the companies’ business plans to meet their strategic goals. The CFO will work with the leadership team to determine the financial strategy for reaching the companies goals and will monitor and analyze financial results. Responsibilities also extend to communicating the companies’ goals to the Shared Services teams so they can support those goals. Direct reports will include the leaders of each Shared Services department.
Organizational Strategy and Results
Collaborate with the executive leadership team, develop the strategy to ensure that the operating companies have the financial resources needed to achieve their current and future goals, while mitigating financial and operational risk
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key financial partners including investors, partners, lenders, clients, and vendors
Financial Management and Reporting
Collaborate with the Accounting leadership team to ensure an engaged and motivated team with paths for promotion
Oversee budgeting, accounting, and cash management to ensure accurate reporting, interpretation, and analysis of financial results in conjunction with budgets, forecasts, and long-range plans
Manage outside CPA relationships
Oversee and review company/property audits and tax returns
Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets
Document and recommend improvements to policies and procedures
Collaborate with Controller to ensure that all loan document reporting requirements are met in a timely manner
Ensure timely and accurate financial information
Manage and monitor the companies’ cash flow and capital needs
Collaborate with the Accounting and Treasury teams to ensure an effective and efficient work environment
Engage with leadership team to determine opportunities for ancillary revenue, additional profitability and generally best in industry financial models across all companies.
Shared Services
Work with each department leader to create strategic goals
Engage routinely with the department leaders to ensure each division is on track to providing the support required to the operating companies for them to achieve their goals
Ensure adequate staffing and structure for each department to achieve most efficiency for future goal achievement across the enterprise
Be engaged in any new software selection process to be used within a company or across the enterprise
Understand and be proactive in all hardware and network administration related issues
Strategically work with Human Resources team leadership and leadership team to develop compensation, bonus, and benefit plans across the enterprise
Help each department leader prioritize their tasks to ensure maximum productivity and best results
Work with Risk Management team to negotiate and manage company/property insurance policies and bonds
Qualifications
At least 20 years of progressive experience including at least three years as a CFO or equivalent
Desire to hold consistent EOS meetings with department leaders to stay on task, monitor results, and ensure goals are being met
Monitor compensation and bonus structure to ensure they are tied to performance of both the individuals and the companies.
Knowledge and experience with commercial and multi-family real estate
Collaborative leadership style
Experience with design and implementation of enhanced financial systems and procedures
Keen interest in utilizing technology to create efficiencies
Possess clear, accurate, effective, and well-organized written and verbal communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office, accounting software programs with YARDI preferable, and other
