Farmingdale State College, a nationally ranked college on a trajectory of growth and improvement, is now accepting applications and nominations for the next Dean of the School of Engineering Technology. The new Dean will join what many describe as the Farmingdale family, where students are the priority and creative ideas come to fruition.

The School of Engineering Technology (SET), the flagship school of the College, includes Departments of Aviation, Architecture and Construction Management Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, as well as the newly formed Division of Computing that includes such programs as Computer Science, Computer Programming and Information Systems, Computer Security, and Security Systems. The Aviation Flight Center and Renewable Energy and Sustainability Center (RESC) are also overseen by the Dean. The School of Engineering Technology houses the College's first graduate program in Technology Management and is actively involved in programming/research related to Wind Technology.

The Dean sets the vision and direction for the School and provides leadership in curriculum development, faculty recruitment and development, student recruitment and retention, and ensures that the standards for specialized accreditations are met. The Dean works collaboratively with the academic administration team under the supervision of the Provost and acts as the official channel for communication regarding all matters pertinent to the functioning of the SET.

Additionally, the Dean directs all instructional programs and staff and provides direction and leadership in the initiation, development, implementation, promotion, and evaluation of programs within the School. The Dean works with the Office of Development and Philanthropy to identify, cultivate, and solicit non-state, private resources for the School. The Dean supervises the recruitment and selection of all new faculty and staff according to established College procedures. In consultation with the Provost, the Dean also establishes and monitors all budget allocations to academic departments and offices within the School.

  • Good interpersonal, management, and conflict resolution skills.

  • Success working with a team to achieve institutional goals as well as experience with shared governance environments and specialized accreditation.

  • Capacity to develop and lead a strategic vision for the School.

    Job Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • All candidates must have a record of scholarly publications and professional eligibility for tenure at the full-professor level.

  • A minimum of four years of administrative experience in a role as academic department chair, assistant dean, associate dean, or a position that offered similar leadership opportunity and growth is required.

  • Also required is an earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution in one of the disciplines of the School of Engineering Technology or a related discipline.

    Additional Information:

This is a full-time M/C position.

  • The review of candidates will begin on March 22, 2024, and first-round interviews will commence thereafter.

  • SALARY: $185,000 and may increase commensurate with experience.
