Fairfield University Assistant or Associate Professor of Educational Studies and Teacher Preparation in Fairfield, Connecticut

Job Description:

The School of Education & Human Development (SEHD) at Fairfield University invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant/Associate Professor of Elementary Education & Program Director.

The Elementary Education Program, located within the Department of Educational Studies & Teacher Preparation, prepares grades 1-6 teachers to create and sustain exemplary learning environments and to advocate for quality education for all learners. Candidates can earn their Master’s and certification in Elementary Education through the post-baccalaureate Master’s degree pro­gram or through the Five-Year Integrated Bachelor’s-Master’s degree program.

This is an extremely pivotal time in teacher education. Fairfield’s Elementary Education program is taking an active hand to help meet the needs of the national teacher shortage crisis by offering student-centered opportunities for certification. The ideal candidate is someone who can continue to further the vision of the department and school.

Applicants for the position must hold or have earned a doctorate by September 1, 2024 in Elementary Education or a related field and be eligible for appointment as an assistant/associate professor based on prior university teaching, scholarship and service, and/or upon extraordinary qualifications in non-university-based leadership in elementary education or related field, including scholarly publications. Associate rank candidates preferred although well qualified assistant professor candidates will be considered. Areas of expertise should include one or more of the following: integrative literacy practices, math, science, or social studies education, inclusive curriculum and pedagogy, or child development. Successful 1-6 teaching experience is required. Knowledge of and experience with certification requirements, accreditation regulations and policies at the state and national level, as well as, edTPA is expected. Expertise in and a commitment to teaching in inclusive, multicultural settings will be given strong consideration.

Responsibilities include: teaching undergraduate/graduate level courses in elementary curriculum and pedagogy; striving for/evidence for teaching excellence in both in-person and online modalities, working with campus partners in admissions and marketing to recruit students; developing/maintaining an ongoing research agenda which includes scholarly publication; leading the Elementary Education program and within the Five-Year Integrated Bachelor’s-Master’s degree program, advising undergraduate/graduate students; reviewing applications; working with local school districts in teacher education and related areas; and collaborating with faculty in other departments in the School of Education & Human Development and across the university.

The salary range is competitive. Appointment is effective September 1, 2024. Review of applications will begin on March 1st, and continue until the position is filled.
