The Network Engineer job family has responsibility for infrastructure/technical planning, implementation and support activities for network environments owned by the CommonSpirit Health ITD Technical Infrastructure team.

The creation and maintenance of overall network plans, encompassing the communication of data, voice, text and image, in the support of an organization's business strategy. This includes the planning of all aspects of infrastructure necessary to ensure provision of network services to meet specified requirements.

The operation and control of the IT infrastructure that is required to deliver and support the information systems needs of a business. Responsibilities include resolving software and hardware related problems, preparation for new or changed services, administering technology layers, monitoring of performance of systems, performing capacity planning and conducting version management.

Network Engineers work closely with architects, infrastructure support, database administrators and application support teams to ensure seamless and quality IT support for CommonSpirit Health customers and alignment with CommonSpirit Health’s IT standards, controls and governance. Provides exceptional customer service to CommonSpirit Health end users, Business Stakeholders and other members of CommonSpirit Health IT.

The Senior Network Engineer will have a thorough and comprehensive mastery of support platforms/products and environments. They focus a majority of their time on complex engineering, architectural and implementation tasks. Project assignments are large in scope and highly complex. They assist with evaluation, engineering /design and implementation services for new products, technologies and solutions as well as serve as escalation support to Tier 1 and Tier 2 network engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Provides advice, guidance and expertise to promote adoption of methods and tools and adherence to policies and standards. Evaluates and selects appropriate methods and tools in line with agreed policies and standards. Implements methods and tools at project and team level including selection and tailoring in line with agreed standards. Manages reviews of the benefits and value of methods and tools. Identifies and recommends improvements. Contributes to organizational policies, standards, and guidelines for methods and tools.

  • Leads the assessment, analysis, planning and design of release packages, including assessment of risk. Conducts post release reviews. Ensures release processes and procedures are applied and that releases can be rolled back as needed. Identifies, evaluates and manages the adoption of appropriate release and deployment tools, techniques and processes (including automation).

  • Coordinates and manages planning of the system and/or acceptance tests. Takes responsibility for integrity of testing and acceptance activities and coordinates the execution of these activities. Provides advice and guidance on any aspect of test planning and execution. Identifies process improvements, and contributes to corporate testing standards and definition of best practice.

  • Demonstrates creativity and takes initiative in problem solving. Resolves or facilitates resolution of complex problems for assigned program.

  • Project assignments are large in scope and are highly complex.

  • Provides escalation support to Tier 1 and 2 network engineers.

  • Provide exceptional customer service to CommonSpirit end users, Business Stakeholders and other members of CommonSpirit ITD.

  • Perform daily production support activities.

  • Participate in team on-call rotations.

  • Lead projects associated to the enhancement, upgrade/patching, or implementation of new or existing technology solutions.

  • Coordinate implementation and support efforts between Technology Infrastructure and other CommonSpirit ITD teams.

  • Provide oversight and facilitation of the CommonSpirit IT change management process as it applies to the Network Engineering team.

  • Conduct performance tuning and troubleshooting.

  • Perform crisis management during high-severity operational incidents.

  • Participates in support efforts with CommonSpirit Health support teams and provides technical leadership and ownership of issues across multiple disciplines and technologies.

  • Design, implement and maintain a comprehensive monitoring and alerting process across all IT platforms.

  • With oversight from the Principal Network Engineer and Management, initiate and facilitate strategic planning activities (capacity planning, process improvement, maintenance, upgrade and end-of-life planning, roadmap development).

  • Build new test and production environments on existing or new hardware as required.

  • Identify automation opportunities and implement scripted solutions.

  • Identify technical innovation and process improvement opportunities.

  • Utilize standard tools and methodology to develop system and support performance metrics.

  • Demonstrate potential leadership qualities through team motivation and technical training.

  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge & expertise with CommonSpirit Health business processes and routines.

  • Remote eligible.

Qualifications

  • BA or BS in Computer Science, Technology, or Business discipline or equivalent experience is required.

  • Minimum of 7 year of professional experience in an IT technical or infrastructure field is required.

  • 5-7 years of experience in large complex project oversight.

  • Established understanding of network connectivity and protocols.

  • 7+ years of experience with Cisco Route Switch and Wireless infrastructure.

  • Experience with datacenter and MDF/IDF closet construction design (cabling, racks, power, cooling).

  • Experience or understanding of Cisco Nexus platform.

  • 5-7 years of experience with vendor management.

  • Advanced experience with Cisco wireless, and strong understanding of wireless design and coverage.

  • 5-7 years of experience with WAN \System Design and Integration.

  • 5-7 years of experience with vendor management

  • Proven abilities in problem management, process analysis and root cause analysis is required.

  • CCNA or CCNP Certification Preferred

  • Excellent judgment in determining work and problem resolution priorities and approaches.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, set priorities, schedule and meet deadlines in a past paced work environment is required.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills desired; Ability to develop and organize written documentation and procedures is required.

  • Healthcare industry experience a plus.

Pay Range

$44.83 - $65.00 /hour
