Cree Senior Test Engineer in Durham, North Carolina

The Power Device R&D Sr. Test Engineer is responsible for leading test solution design efforts to support the development, enhancement, maintenance and cost reduction of Wolfspeed Power Device products.

The Sr. Test Engineer works closely with other cross-functional team members within Wolfspeed and reports to the Power R&D Test Development Engineering Manager.  The incumbent uses critical thinking to make sound decisions and must be an energetic hands-on self-starter with the ability to drive projects working independently and/or collaboratively within a team.

The Day-to-Day:

  • The day-to-day outputs of the test engineer will directly impact and support the equipment/application development needs to fully characterize, validate and evaluate our product performance and specifications.

  • Engage in highly collaborative cross-functional working groups to evaluate new products and validate design changes to existing products.

    • Evaluate inputs from validation, product engineering, and R&D Scientists.

    • Distill New Product & Technology inputs into meaningful roadmaps and execution on cutting edge power electronic test equipment and applications.

    • Support research, develop and implement cutting-edge processes, systems and equipment to support departmental objectives relative to quality, cost, time to market, and overall product and system performance.

  • Create PC-based applications and communications libraries to control test solutions used to exercise products, supporting all stages of research and development.

  • Utilize product data to identify, design, validate and implement testing enhancements for Power Device Products.

  • Work within newly renovated state-of-the-art cleanroom and validation labs developing and qualifying test systems alongside Power R&D scientists.

This Job is Right for You if You Have (Minimum Requirements):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology, Computer Science or Computer Engineering with 5-8 years of relevant experience or Master’s degree with 3-5 years of relevant experience.

  • Experience in test engineering in a new product development, research or continuation/sustaining engineering environment focusing on electrical, mechanical, thermal and high-power circuits and systems in all three disciplines of analog, digital, and power. This Includes the following experiences:

    • Supporting a test solution design and/or project management experience in a design project from concept to release.

      • Familiarity with engineering principles, standards & design mitigation techniques.

    • Testing/debugging of electronic components or systems.

    • Comfortable utilizing test equipment (may include, but not limited to: power supplies, DMMs, oscilloscopes, analyzers, using various communication protocols & hardware)

    • Automation/programming using various tools.

      • Familiarity with programming in one of the following languages/IDE’s is preferred:  Python, VB.NET, C#.NET, NI-LabVIEW, NI-TestStand

  • Excellent Time Management Skills with demonstrated success managing multiple project responsibilities (project management training is a plus)

  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills are essential.
