J&J is on a journey to centralize customer and external partner identity for our millions of users consuming services worldwide. Our goal is to improve user experiences by implementing a single universal directory and primary ID for each person.

The External Identity engineer will be part of the development team directly partnering with our Engineering Leads and Product Owners to develop and maintain our suite of products that power our customer identity solution. They will be a primary engineer on our xIAM Authentication product based on the Okta Customer Identity Solution platform and will provide input on the architecture and design of solutions. A successful candidate for this role would be a top-tier full-stack engineer with a strong focus in Identity and Access Management.

As this person grows in their role within the External Identity team, they will need to understand and become educated on our various ancillary products including custom React-based websites, sophisticated RBAC automation logic, and our API integration layer. They will have the opportunity to influence enterprise-wide technology selections, and integration patterns, and will be responsible for ensuring that our solution remains scalable across a multitude of different customer use cases.

Responsibilities:

  • Hands-on development of Okta features, including custom UI/UX coding, integrations, new feature exploration, and proof of concepts.

  • Maintenance and improvement of automated deployment techniques and practices across the xIAM product suite.

  • Perform code reviews and assessments for third-party developers on the xIAM team.

  • Provide inputs to architecture design, and feature design review, owning the change control process for our development within Okta.

  • Screen technical candidates when growing our teams with identity-focused engineers.

  • Perform demos to collaborators of new Okta features or xIAM-developed custom features.

  • Continue to train on Okta to expand product knowledge.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in the information security or information technology sector.

  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in system design and development with a focus on SaaS applications.

  • At least 2 years of experience in identity and access management with a focus on Okta.

  • Proven experience developing, integrating, and deploying Okta for large-scale companies.

  • Experience with the following programming languages: Java, Javascript, React.js, Node.js, SQL.

  • Solid understanding of IAM principles, protocols (SAML, OIDC, OAuth, LDAP), and security best practices.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work with and lead an engineering team.

  • Strong problem-solving skills.

  • Fluent/Very Proficient in English.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with AWS Lambda, Apigee, and Kubernetes.

  • Experience with security/code scanning tools (Noname, Sonarqube, Checkmarkx).

  • Multiple Okta certifications (Administrator, Consultant, Developer, Technical Architect).

  • Experience developing and deploying both workforce and customer IAM solutions.

  • Knowledge of other IAM tools (Forgerock, Azure B2C, Ping, Salesforce Identity, etc).

  • Experience developing and maintaining SDLC documentation.

  • Ability to communicate technical knowledge to non-technical partners.

  • Excellent organization and time management experience.

  • Previous experience in professional services or consulting.
