    Position Title: High School Mock Trial Coach

Overview:

As a Mock Trial Coach, you will play a pivotal role in guiding and mentoring students as they develop essential critical thinking, public speaking, and legal advocacy skills through simulated courtroom experiences. This is an exciting opportunity to engage with motivated students and foster their passion for law and debate in a supportive and collaborative environment.

Responsibilities:

  1. Lead and coordinate mock trial team meetings, practices, and competitions.

  2. Instruct students on case materials, legal procedures, courtroom etiquette, and trial strategies.

  3. Provide constructive feedback on student performances during practice trials and competitions.

  4. Foster a positive and inclusive team culture that values teamwork, respect, and professionalism.

  5. Collaborate with fellow coaches, faculty advisors, and legal professionals to enhance students' learning experiences.

  6. Organize logistics for mock trial events, including scheduling competitions, arranging transportation, and securing necessary resources.

  7. Support students in developing case theories, witness examinations, opening statements, closing arguments, and legal objections.

  8. Prepare students for various roles within the mock trial, including attorneys, witnesses, and courtroom clerks.

  9. Serve as a mentor and role model for students, promoting academic excellence, integrity, and ethical conduct.

  10. Uphold the rules and regulations of the mock trial program and ensure compliance with school policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  1. Prior experience with mock trial competitions as a participant, coach, or legal professional.

  2. Strong understanding of legal principles, courtroom procedures, and trial advocacy techniques.

  3. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage and motivate students.

  4. Demonstrated leadership ability and teamwork skills.

  5. Patience, empathy, and the ability to provide constructive feedback to students.

  6. Flexibility to accommodate evening and weekend commitments for competitions and practices.

  7. Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the mock trial program.
