Woodside Middle School (Saydel CSD) is looking for a 5-8 Family and Consumer Science teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. We have a 4 Day School Week with professional development offered most Fridays. Work with a collaborative team that focuses on student engagement, restorative practices and team commitments.

The Family and Consumer Science Teacher (Grades 5-8) is responsible for planning, implementing, and assessing instructional activities that promote student learning and skill development in the areas of family studies, nutrition, culinary arts, textiles, and personal finance. The teacher will create a positive and engaging learning environment that fosters students' understanding of practical life skills and promotes their social and emotional well-being.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver age-appropriate curriculum aligned with state standards and district objectives in Family and Consumer Science (FCS) for students in grades 5-8.

  • Plan and execute engaging lessons and activities that cater to diverse learning styles and abilities.

  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, resources, and technologies to enhance student learning and facilitate skill acquisition.

  • Integrate real-world applications and hands-on experiences into lessons to reinforce concepts and promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Create a safe and supportive classroom environment where students feel comfortable exploring and applying new knowledge and skills.

  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with students, parents/guardians, colleagues, and community members to support student success and well-being.

  • Assess student progress through formative and summative assessments and provide timely and constructive feedback to students and parents/guardians.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum, share best practices, and support interdisciplinary learning opportunities.

  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills, stay current with research and best practices in FCS education, and meet licensure requirements.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the school administration to support the overall mission and goals of the school and district.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Family and Consumer Science Education or related field (Master's degree preferred).

  • Valid teaching license or certification in Family and Consumer Science or eligible for licensure in the state. (139: 5-12 Family & Consumer Sciences - General)

  • Previous teaching experience at the middle school level is preferred.

  • Knowledge of curriculum development, instructional strategies, and assessment practices in Family and Consumer Science education.

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

  • Passion for working with middle school students and a commitment to their academic and personal growth.

  • Ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment that respects and values diversity.
