PURPOSE

Under the general supervision of the building principal, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district and state approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations and goals.

QUALIFICATIONS

A. Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Ability to provide effective instruction to meet student needs relative to district initiatives and standards

  • Knowledge of “best practice” in teaching

  • Knowledge of the developmental characteristics of students at the designated grade level

  • Ability to build effective relationships with all stakeholders

  • Knowledge of the Iowa Teaching Standards

  • Knowledge of special education and section 504

B. Education

  • Hold a bachelor’s or higher degree and the required Iowa certificate for the assigned position.

C. Certification/Licensure

  • K-6 Teacher Elementary Classroom

D. Preferred knowledge, skills, and/or attributes

  • Strong communication skills

  • Knowledge of professional learning and collaboration

  • Understanding and application of a continuous improvement mindset

  • Project-based preferred

  • Data-driven decision-making skills

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Demonstrates effective implementation of the eight Iowa Teaching Standards and 42 criteria

  • Implements student-centered learning environments and improves overall quality and meaningfulness of learning opportunities

  • Meets professional responsibilities as outlined within Individual Professional Development Plan, Employee Handbook, and Board policy

  • Monitor and maintain accurate records on student achievement, articulating the progress and success

  • Fosters a classroom environment conducive to learning

  • Demonstrate the ability to work and communicate effectively with students, peers and adults

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal
