Human Resources is an integral part of SUNY Delhi's Finance & Administration team, which strives to provide high quality services, effective solutions, and regulatory guidance to promote responsible administration of the Campus's physical infrastructure, technology, financial resources, and human capital in support of the College's strategic vision.

The Director serves as the Chief Human Resources Officer, Affirmative Action Officer, Title IX Coordinator and NYS Ethics Officer for the Campus. This position oversees daily operations of the Department, as well as ensures compliance with all applicable labor agreements, State and federal laws, SUNY and Civil Service rules and regulations. The Director works closely with the Campus President.

This position is responsible for ensuring the Department meets its commitment to excellence by providing innovative, progressive, and thoughtful solutions to human resource issues in a professional, caring manner in service of dedicated faculty, staff and students from diverse backgrounds.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Serve as principal advisor to the Campus on all matters related to human resources, affirmative action (including Title IX for employees), ethics, payroll and benefits.

  • Provide leadership, oversight and policy for management of assigned functions and daily operations with a department staff of five.

  • Continually investigate and develop ways to enhance human resource functions and improve responsiveness to student, faculty, staff, administration, management and external constituents.

  • Develop, facilitate, monitor and track mandated compliance supervisory/management training, as well as provide supplemental programs to enhance knowledge and effectiveness in relevant proficiencies.

  • Take an active role in Campus labor relations, including representing the Campus on assigned labor/management committees, compliance with collective bargaining unit agreements and local, State and federal laws related to employment and human resources.

  • Administer the classification and compensation plans of the New York State Department of Civil Service and the State University of New York as they apply to the Campus.

  • Work closely with the Chief Diversity Officer to continually improve recruitment and selection processes, including the on-boarding process.

This position requires the utmost discretion and confidentiality when working with employees' sensitive and private information. Behaviors and actions of the Director serve as a model, for both Human Resource Department staff as well as for the broader Campus community, of the high standards expected in this role.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field.

  • Minimum of six years increasingly responsible experience in personnel management and organizational development.

  • Highly effective decision making, problem solving, critical thinking and organizational leadership skills.

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

  • Extensive experience conscientiously working with confidential and sensitive information.

  • Demonstrated customer service orientation.

Preferred qualifications

  • Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Public Administration or related field.

  • Experience in a public higher education setting.

  • Experience working in a unionized environment.
