Compensation is based on a fee-for-service model.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Speech Pathologist provides speech and language therapeutic services to children birth to five who have been diagnosed with a medical, developmental, physical and/or mental health disability. This position will provide assessment, education and intervention for children birth to five in the office and/or community/home-based settings. This position will work closely with mental health staff in order to provide multi-disciplinary services to children and families.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Masters Degree in Speech and Language Pathology is required.
Current State of Michigan Speech and Language Pathology license is required.
Certificate of Clinical Competence through American Speech Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) is required.
At least one year of direct work experience in providing services to children and their families is required; three to five years preferred.
Experience in both clinic and community/home-based settings is preferred.
Knowledge of typical and atypical early child development required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide comprehensive assessments, treatment planning and developmentally supportive interventions which include, but are not limited to: providing services which are family centered and culturally and linguistically responsive; developing, improving, sustaining and restoring communication skills in activities of daily living (ADL’s) within the context of a child and family’s natural environment.
Educating clients, families and caregivers of interventions; provide modeling opportunities of interventions to be used throughout a client and family’s daily routines
Promotes maximum independence by selecting and constructing interventions according to individual's physical capacity, intelligence level, and interest.
Evaluates results of speech-language skills by observing, noting, and evaluating patient's progress; recommending and implementing adjustments and modifications.
Completes discharge planning by consulting with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other health care workers as appropriate; contributing to patient care conferences.
Assures continuation of therapeutic plan following discharge by designing and instructing patients, families, and caregivers in home. programs; recommending and/or providing assistive equipment; recommending outpatient or home health follow-up programs.
Maintain client files according to Starfish Family Services guidelines.
May d evelop and conduct in-service training programs for agency staff.
LICENSING AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid driver’s license and / or reliable transportation.
