The Benefits Audit and Controls Sr. Analyst is a member of the Benefits team within the People organization and is responsible for ERISA compliance and multiple employee benefit plan audits and analysis for the American Airlines health and welfare benefit plans.
This role will actively interface with external auditors and accounting professionals, benefit plan trustees and recordkeepers, third party benefit and claims administrators, as well as internal teams such as Financial Reporting, Accounting, Asset Management, Treasury, and all other Benefits departments.

Support ERISA compliance for the Company’s health and welfare benefit plans
Independently monitor, reconcile, and resolve issues for multiple Voluntary Employee Beneficiary Association (VEBA) accounts
Manage all deliverables for annual ERISA-required employee benefit plan audits and IRS/DOL Forms 5500 and 990 filings, including preparation of financial schedules
Coordinate with third party benefits administrators to obtain all required documentation for participant, claim, and transactional audit testing
Assist team in resolving financial related issues with third party administrators
Perform peer reviews of various schedules to ensure SOX compliance
Recognize audit and compliance risks and assist in development and implementation of process improvements
Manage Pilot Long Term Disability Plan analysis and reporting
SOX compliance activities related to Long Term Disability Plan
Invoice and wire funding preparation
Produce ad-hoc reporting and/or participate in special projects, as needed, to support company and department initiatives
All you'll need for success
Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience/training
5 years minimum experience in accounting, analysis, and audits
Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
Advanced understanding of accounting, audit concepts and reconciliation procedures to ensure accurate records are maintained
Proven experience with employee benefit plan auditors and/or other internal and external audit professionals
Experience with ERISA compliance filings (including, but not limited to, IRS Forms 5500 and 990)
Proven ability to problem-solve and use critical thinking skills to resolve issues timely
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office software, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Prior experience with SAP-Financials and SuccessFactors/Employee Central
Human Resources Certification (PHR/SHRM/GpHR/CBP, etc.)

Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task and effectively prioritize work, with emphasis on accuracy, timeliness, and operational excellence
Ability to independently research issues using multiple sources and strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong interpersonal skills required with the ability to effectively communicate with multiple levels of internal and external partners to achieve common goals
Effective team player with the ability to collaborate, as well as work independently
Must meet strict deadlines, with the ability to adapt in a fast-paced, changing, and complex benefits audit & accounting environment
Self-motivated individual with the passion and desire to obtain additional knowledge and experience across multiple areas of the organization
