The Psychology of Racism, Identity, Diversity and Equity (PRIDE) lab in the Department of Psychology at the University of Miami (PI: Simon Howard ) is seeking a full-time Research Associate 1 to begin in August 2024. The lab explores the ways race and racism (and other dimensions of identity) influences our social perception, judgment, interactions, and mental well-being. The Research Associate will work closely with Dr. Howard to manage the day-to-day operations of the lab.

The ideal candidate is someone motivated to pursue a PhD in social or clinical psychology. They will therefore have opportunities (and will be encouraged) to lead independent research projects, attend conferences, co-author manuscripts.

This is a one-year fixed term position with possibility of renewal based on performance and funding availability. Core Job Responsibilities

  • Contributes to basic and applied research activities by collecting and analyzing data, entering data, and maintaining databases, etc.

  • Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.

  • Participates in the publication of significant results.

  • Advances expertise through continued education, training and/or research.

  • Maintains an overview of relevant research findings.

  • Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice and guidance.

Position-Specific Responsibilities

  • Collaboration on projects (e.g., conducting literature reviews, completing IRB submissions, recruiting, scheduling and running participants, designing study materials, coding and analyzing data, assisting with publications and presentations)

  • Research team management (e.g., coordinating research project logistics, assisting with the hiring, training and managing of research assistants, leading research team meetings)

  • General lab administration duties (e.g., lab meeting and event management, updating lab documents and policies, maintaining lab website, purchasing lab necessities, maintaining lab equipment)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required in psychology, public health, or a related field

  • Experience using Qualtrics or other survey design software

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

  • High attention to detail and ability to juggle multiple tasks

  • Experience (if not proficiency) in using a data analysis program such as R, SPSS, Python, or SAS, and Microsoft Office.

  • No years of experience required

  • Two-years research experience is preferred
