$26.51 - $43.52 Hourly

The above salary does not include an additional $60 hazard duty paid bi-weekly.

The State of New Hampshire, Department of Corrections has a full-time vacancy for Teacher I-III Series.

SCOPE OF WORK: Performs all the professional duties of a teacher of educationally disabled and/or educationally disadvantaged inmate students in the Corrections Special School District (CSSD) setting to both male and/or female offenders at other correctional facilities and administers, directly and indirectly, the rules and operational routines necessary for maintaining a safe and secure correctional environment while working in close and immediate contact with prisoners on a daily basis, having responsibility for security. Ensures education program and policy requirements are met for offenders as determined through departmental, state and federal guidelines.

18 Months of additional relevant experience = Associate's degree

36 Months of additional relevant experience = Bachelor's degree

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

TEACHER I:

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university. Statement of eligibility for NH Teacher Certification, issued by the NH Department of Education, Bureau of Credentialing, may be substituted for the formal education required by this class specification.

EXPERIENCE: No experience required.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Must possess a valid drivers license. Must be appropriately certified, or eligible for certification through a statement of eligibility, by the NH Department of Education, Bureau of Credentialing in one of the following areas: #0500 English (5-12), #1100 Mathematics (7-12) or #1900 General Special Education. NH Department of Education, Bureau of Credentialing certifications in other secondary content areas may be considered.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Successful completion of the Corrections Academy and continuing certification as correctional line personnel as established by the certifying authority.

TEACHER II:

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university, plus an additional eighteen (18) credit hours of graduate study in education or the field in which the subject matter is being taught.

EXPERIENCE: Six years' experience as a certified educator. Experience as a certified educator may include employment as a teacher, specialist, or administrator, per NH State Law and Administrative Rules.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Must possess a valid drivers license. Must be appropriately certified, or eligible for certification through a statement of eligibility, by the NH Department of Education, Bureau of Credentialing in one of the following areas: #0500 English (5-12), #1100 Mathematics (7-12) or #1900 General Special Education. NH Department of Education, Bureau of Credentialing certifications in other secondary content areas may be considered.

TEACHER III:

EDUCATION: Master's degree from a recognized college or university, with a major study in education or in the field in which the subject matter is being taught.

EXPERIENCE: Eleven years' exper ence as a certified educator. Experience as a certified educator may include employment as a teacher, specialist, or administrator, per NH State Law and Administrative Rules.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Must possess a valid drivers license. Must be appropriately certified, or eligible for certification through a statement of eligibility, by the NH Department of Education, Bureau of Credentialing in one of the following areas: #0500 English (5-12), #1100 Mathematics (7-12) or #1900 General Special Education. NH Department of Education, Bureau of Credentialing certifications in other secondary content areas may be considered.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Monitors behavior of inmates for compliance with institutional rules; maintains a safe and secure classroom environment; implements behavior management program for inmate students; and assists inmate students in learning and demonstrating responsible behavior. When appropriate, initiates disciplinary action and presents evidence and testimony when called upon to do so.

Fulfills the security functions required of all DOC employees as dictated by institutional needs and Policy and Procedure Directives. Examples include, but are not limited to, monitoring student movement, key control, tool control, contraband detection and fire safety.

Plans, outlines and teaches a range of academic subjects within his/her certification area(s) at levels required for successful remediation of low functioning adult learners while meeting Department of Education standards for high school curricula. Researches, recommends and plans curriculum, instruction and assessment activities which lead to the establishment of a curriculum which meets Department of Education standards. Attends regularly scheduled meetings with other professionals for the purpose of reviewing inmate students backgrounds and establishing goals for academic and behavioral growth.

Adapts classroom and/or lab activities, teaching methods and academic materials to meet the special individualized needs of educationally disabled and/or educationally disadvantaged inmate students. Meets with educators regarding necessary accommodations to the needs of special education inmate students, solving problems and monitoring progress and submits progress reports on each inmate student in the special education program with identification of strengths, weaknesses, objectives met and recommendations for further development and IEP structure.

Develop, implement and maintain an approved individual professional development plan (IPDP) in order to maintain educator certification and the continued development of skills and knowledge vital to the position.

Supervises and trains inmates who serve as classroom and/or lab aides or tutors.
