Position Summary:

The Student Learner/Youth Apprenticeship Program is designed to allow students to experience a “hands-on” approach to learning in various facets of the manufacturing industry. Students will be introduced to valuable knowledge in the industrial fields and forging industry. This program is intended for students interested in pursuing a career in the manufacturing field and gain technical skills.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Applicable to all areas:

  • Actively participate in efforts to establish and promote a safe and healthy work environment and inform Safety Director and Supervisor of any accidents or equipment damage that occurs.

  • Follow policies, programs, and procedures for the reduction and elimination of accidents, provide quality feedback to promote safer work behaviors and conditions

  • Maintain an organized and clean work area

  • Act professionally and cooperate with others in a team setting.

    The Student Learner may gain experience in any of these departments:

  • Machine Shop

  • Tool Crib

  • Quality

  • Maintenance

  • Heat Treat

    Qualifications:

  • High School Junior or Senior in “good standing” or recent High School graduate 16 -18 years old with a 2.5 GPA or better; Must be willing to provide transcripts and faculty/personal recommendations upon request.

  • Ability to operate tools and equipment safely and apply manufacturing and industry knowledge and think critically.

  • Successful completion of technical education courses is a plus &/or current enrollment in technical education courses.

  • Must have effective interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with all personnel.

  • Basic computer skills, ability to follow instructions, both written and verbal.

    Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

Position requires working in production areas while fork lifts, pallet jacks, overhead cranes and related equipment is in use. On occasion while performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to heat (air temperatures that reach over 100 degrees F). The employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions, in wet and/or humid conditions, or near fumes, airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals. When in the area of production noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Successful candidates must pass a 90 day hair drug screen, pre-employment physical and lift evaluation .
