EquipmentShare Software Engineer II - Enterprise Technology in Chicago, Illinois

EquipmentShare is hiring for a Software Engineer II - Enterprise Technology Your role in our team

At EquipmentShare (https://www.equipmentshare.com/about) , we believe it’s more than just a job, we invest in our people and encourage you to choose the best path for your career. It’s truly about you, your future and where you want to go.

We are looking for a Software Engineer II to serve our Enterprise Technology teams.

Our main tech ecosystem includes :AWS, Kubernetes, Python, Kafka, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Kinesis, TypeScript, React. If you have production scale experience in a different stack (Go, Java, Scala, C#, etc.) and are interested in moving to a new stack, we should chat.

What you'll be doing

You’ll be part of the Enterprise Technology Integrations team, which encompasses Financial Systems (ERP), Human Resource Systems (HRIS), and Information Systems (IT). You’ll be serving this close-knit team in the development of custom solutions and will be helping in the integration of semi-disparate systems, whether they be internally developed or 3rd party business applications (including, but not limited to, multiple ERPs, IT, and HRIS platforms).

Our team advises on, implements, maintains, and integrates core and secondary business systems for day-to-day operations. We work heavily across departments with corporate leadership and product owners, evaluating the functional needs and pain points of departments. From there, we advise on options, whether via the expansion of current systems, the development of new processes, or by utilizing and integrating third-party platforms.

We'll be there to support you as you become familiar with our teams, product domains, tech stack and processes — generally how we all work together.

As a Software Engineer II - Enterprise Technology Integrations, you will

  • Help design, build and deliver robust solutions, whether that be by integrating disparate systems or by developing new ones.

  • Become the technical subject matter expert (SME) and advisor on 3rd party platforms, understanding how they work, capabilities and limitations, data connectivity, Webservices & API functions.

  • Exert your passion and thinking to streamline and control business and financial transactions within, and across platforms.

  • Collaborate with adjacent departments to take ideas from concept to delivery. Balancing the desire to ship code with the responsibility to get it right.

  • As time and workload allows, support, coach and mentor Engineers and Analysts in adjacent teams by sharing your insight, knowledge and experience as we learn and grow together.

  • Meet with the software development team to define the scope and scale of software projects and adoption of priority platform data.

  • Design and implement scalable applications, web services, and APIs.

  • Develop and maintain internal software tools.

  • Troubleshoot and bug fix.

  • Identify bottlenecks and improve software efficiency.

  • Write technical documents.

    Who you are

You're a hands-on developer who gets stuck in, you enjoy solving complex problems and building impactful solutions. Most importantly, you care about making a difference.

  • Take the initiative to own outcomes from start to finish — knowing what needs to be accomplished within your domain and how we work together to deliver the best solution.

  • You have a passion for developing your craft — you understand what it takes to build quality, robust and scalable solutions.

  • You’ll see the learning opportunity when things don’t quite go to plan — not only for you, but for how we continuously improve as a team.

  • You take a hypothesis-driven approach — knowing how to source, create and leverage data to inform decision making, using data to drive how we improve, to shape how we evaluate and make platform recommendations.

So, what is important to us?

Above all, you’ll get stuff done. More importantly, you’ll collaborate to do the right things, in the right way to achieve the right outcomes.

  • Proficient with a high order object oriented language (especially Python) - open to Go, Java, Scala, C# etc.)

  • 2+ years of relevent usage of REST APIs

  • 2+ years of relevant development experience building production grade solutions

  • Delivery focused with solid exposure to event driven architectures and high volume data processing.

  • Practical exposure of CI/CD pipelines for your production services.

  • Familiarity with public cloud service platforms (AWS / Azure / Google).

  • Experience partnering and collaborating with remote teams (across time zones).

  • Proven track record in learning new technologies and applying that learning quickly.

  • Experience building observability and monitoring into applications.

Ideally some of the things that would be nice to have, but not required:

  • Experience with authentication and/or identity management (Auth0 or Okta).

  • Familiarity with SQL and utilizing output of SQL statements in Python.

  • Experience with deploying and scheduling on AWS Batch and Jenkins

  • Business analytics, financial systems or accounting experience are a plus!
