Summary:

The Engineering Manager monitors the sites engineering design activities. The position's objective is to lead a team which designs tools, equipment, and systems to meet customer specifications, perform effectively, and are cost efficient.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans, directs, and oversees all site engineering activities.

  • Familiar with a variety of the aerospace industry concepts, practices, and procedures.

  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and counseling employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • Supports the VP of Engineering and develops, organizes, and controls all aspects of the site engineering team, including group goals, labor forecasts, schedules, project budgets and project manpower.

  • Creates and nurtures a teamwork environment and supports or participates as project team member.

  • Aids in selection of engineering resources inside and outside of AIT.

  • Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

  • Supports all projects on behalf of the engineering department from inception through completion.

  • Accountable for the completion of long-term engineering projects.

  • Provide leadership to set and meet design schedules.

  • Ensures all engineering projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with organization's established policies and objectives.

  • Estimate project costs at the department level and execute design for cost.

  • Assists in change management, organizing revisions and creates change information for estimating.

  • Attends to the customer requirements. Gives necessary presentations to the customer.

  • Oversees the engineering design of tools & equipment and interacts with fabrication, assembly, installation and operation and/or repair of products.

  • Ensures engineering compliance with all customer and/or other pertaining specifications.

  • Understands and follows safety & environmental regulations and identifies safety/environmental concerns.

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with AIT policies and applicable laws.

  • Adheres to the Quality System and participates in Continuous Improvement.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • Minimum of ten years prior work experience in one or more of the following: Heavy Machine Design, Structural Design Aerospace Tooling Assembly Systems and Automation.

  • Manufacturing and machine shop background or relevant experience preferred.

  • Must have exposure to engineering design principles and methodologies.

  • Over three years of demonstrated experience managing engineering teams.

  • CAD Software Knowledge:

  • CATIA V5, NX or Equivalent software knowledge (Solidworks, Pro E, etc.)

  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software (Ansys or Femap is preferred)

  • Must be able to obtain, maintain and/or currently possess a Secret security clearance.

  • Knowledge of engineering and programming including electronics, mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, and computer programming.

  • Assign responsibilities that bring out the best work and distributes the workload appropriately; ensures there are clear directions, goals, and responsibilities.

  • Leadership and management skills with a proven ability to coordinate employees, teams, and departments with different skills and backgrounds.

  • Define tasks and milestones to achieve objectives, while ensuring the optimal use of resources to achieve those objectives.

  • Self-starter, ability to work independently, act and deliver results, exercising high level judgment in the absence of explicit direction.

  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.

    Work Conditions:

    Environment Type:

  • Indoors, Office environment. Temperature controlled.

    Exposure Types:

  • No adverse environmental conditions expected.

    Work Hours :

  • Standard work schedule, overtime may be necessary for meeting deadlines, required travel, emergent conditions.

    Travel Requirements:

  • This position can involve travel up to 25% of the time.

    Physical Demands:

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds.

  • Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with whole hand or arm as in handling.

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
