Indian Health Service Laborer in Cass Lake, Minnesota

Summary This position is located in the Maintenance Department of the PHS Indian Hospital, Cass Lake, Minnesota. The purpose of this position is to provide labor in support of the Maintenance Department. The Maintenance Department is involved in operation, maintenance and repair for the hospital and outpatient clinic and the related buildings and grounds. Responsibilities Snow and ice removal by use of a variety of equipment, tools and techniques including snow plows, loaders, snow throwers, power brooms, hand shovels, picks, application of salt sand and liquid ice melts, etc. Care of equipment will include regular washing and cleaning, checking and filling oil and fuel levels and inspection for proper operation of the power equipment. Lawn, plant and tree care by use of a variety of equipment, tools and techniques including lawn riding mowers, push mowers, power trimmers, chainsaws and hand tools such as tree limb trimmers, rakes, shovels and other hand tools will be required. Care of equipment will include regular washing and cleaning, checking and filling oil and fuel levels and inspection for proper operation of the power equipment. Parking, sidewalk and other exterior building care by use of tools or by hand including breaking up concrete or pavement, making minor patches and repairs, washing, painting, pulling weeds, emptying refuse cans; removing debris from parking lot areas and other grounds. Maintenance Assistance: The maintenance laborer will assist the Maintenance Workers during their course of duties. Such work will expose the individual to craft trades such as building and grounds maintenance, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, construction, painting, HVAC, etc. The individual will assist the maintenance workers in accomplishing complex tasks and receive instructions on how to complete simple tasks individually, such as changing light bulbs and filters. General Labor: Such as digging and filling holes and trenches, moving boxes, loading and unloading equipment, cleaning, hanging pictures and putting furniture together. Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957 and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. WAGE GRADE STATEMENT Candidates for this position will be evaluated under the Federal Wage System (FWS) Job Grading Standards. Education There are no education requirements. Additional Information Per IHS policy (SGM 21-04) IHS selectees to positions located in Federally operated hospitals, health centers, and clinics must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before entry on duty or have IHS approve a medical or religious exemption. If an exemption is approved then wearing a face mask and regular testing for COVID-19 will be required. Additional selection(s) of candidates may be possible within 240 days from the date the certificate of eligibles was issued for this announcement. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit. Recruitment or relocation incentives may be authorized. At least a 6 month service agreement will be required.
