Dow Chemical Process R&D Engineer in Carrollton (KY), Kentucky

Dow has an opportunity for a Research & Development Engineer/Scientist in our Process Research & Development (PR&D) function located in Carrollton, KY, USA. Dow’s R&D organization is comprised of premier researchers, application developers and technical service experts located in state-of-the-art facilities around the world. The position will address problems of high technical complexity, engage with multifunctional teams on identifying challenges, propose innovative solutions, and develop Dow Proprietary state-of-the-art technologies with significant business impact for the company.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Understand and follow appropriate EH&S standards, policies and procedures applicable to their job

  • Define and conduct research for projects using advanced knowledge of scientific principles, theory and experimental design across adjacent disciplines.

  • Develop and implement technical solutions through hands-on experimentation, team collaboration, simulation and problem-solving.

  • Generate sound research data, analysis and interpretation of results, communication of recommendations.

  • Demonstrate expertise in use of experimental/ computational/ theoretical methods.

  • Participate in the innovation process as it applies to your specific projects and begin contributing to the innovation process through new opportunity identification.

  • Consistently apply the Scientific Method in the planning and execution of experimental plans and problem solving. Leverage Project Management tools and methodologies to solve complex problems with projects of regional or global scope.

  • Keep current with developments in relevant area of technology and identify and implement applications which will benefit Dow. Have an in-depth understanding of the patent and journal literature across related areas of technology. Understand and incorporate the competitive landscape in technology mapping. Work with legal department to manage IP and secure freedom to practice and patent new technologies.

  • Provide constructive feedback and coaching to project participants.

  • Mentor junior level scientists and technologists.

  • Deliver presentations and reports that distill complex ideas into clear results and proposals; communicate to influence internal and external audiences.

  • Communicate and appropriately document work in the form of internal reports, presentations and external publications and presentations. Draft and submit patent disclosures as appropriate.

  • Assure project alignment to business strategies and objectives.

  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) on multi-disciplinary project teams to collaborate, provide technical input, and deliver results aligned with team deliverables.

  • Leverage internal and external networks for project success; establishes relationships with customers, vendors, academia, industry and engage regularly in appropriate scientific/professional venues.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Material Science or Chemistry

  • Prior technical research experience in academia or industry.

  • Solid understanding across chemistry and engineering disciplines.

  • Ability to work independently and drive projects to completion.

  • Highly collaborative with strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

  • Ability to successfully partner with team members and stakeholders with variable backgrounds.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to deliver effective presentations to technical teams, management, and business leadership.

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
