POSITION DETAILS

The Percy Ellis Sutton SEEK (Search for Education, Elevation, and Knowledge) Program is CUNY's higher education opportunity program designed to assist high-potential, low-income students who otherwise might not be able to pursue a college degree because they are not academically well-prepared for college-level work. The program provides educational support, academic advisement, and counseling assistance, all of which are aimed at strengthening students' basic skills, bolstering their academic success in all levels of college courses, and maximizing their retention and persistence through to graduation.

Reporting to the Director of the Academic SEEK Program, the Academic SEEK Program Manager has primary responsibility for the planning, implementation, and management of a range of academic support services that are offered to Program students. In addition to overseeing the day-to-day operation of the program’s academic support services unit, known as the SEEK Resource Center (SRC), the Academic SEEK Program Manager’s duties include but are not limited to:

  • Plan and implement tutoring services and supplemental instruction (SI) workshops for new and continuing students, and monitor and report on the progress of students utilizing SRC services.

  • Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise SEEK tutors, SI leaders, IT personnel, and other staff to ensure adequate coverage of the SRC and SEEK Computer Lab.

  • Conduct academic skills development workshops as needed.

  • In consultation with the director, hire adjunct faculty to teach academic workshops.

  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of the IT Academic Technology Coordinator and tutoring staff.

  • Implement and oversee assessment activities for the unit.

  • Gather data for reporting, evaluation, and research; prepare necessary reports and analyses.

  • Manage a substantial budget under the supervision of the SEEK Director.

  • Collaborate with other academic departments and academic support units (e.g., Gateway Advising Center, Student Support Services Program, Writing Center) to plan student services.

  • Collaborate with SEEK professional counseling staff to monitor and evaluate student involvement and progress in SEEK and college student support activities.

  • Conduct other SEEK Program and college activities as may be assigned by the SEEK Chair/Director.

The ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree and six years' related experience required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree with at least six years of progressively responsible professional work experience in an educational setting, preferably at the college level.

  • Knowledge and experience in leading instructional support services for underrepresented college students, especially in math and science, is highly desirable.

  • Demonstrated commitment to the mission of senior college educational opportunity programs and developmental education.

  • Strong organizational and administrative abilities are essential, as are excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, and the ability to work with a diverse group of students.

  • Prior experience training and managing staff is strongly preferred.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly word processing and spreadsheet editing tools.

  • Experience in tutor training and with assessment is a plus.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

$96,602 - $107,789. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
